  1. The Galibier concept car went throught different phases of planning, and for quite a while the management at Bugatti was convinced that the Galibier should become the next main model for the Bugatti brand.
  2. Upon seeing the newly designed Bugatti Galibier model; Ferdinand Piech apparently said; what an ugly car is that? And the decision was made to stop further development of the Bugatti Galibier concept model.
  3. And around that time; the design team at Bugatti presented the idea for a successor to the Bugatti Veyron. It was the concept car with the name Galibier. And that car was a four door sports limousine model.
  4. In that sense; the Galibier, being a four door saloon model, was not the natural successor to the Veyron model in the sense that it was no two seater, two door hypercar. It had four doors and four seats.
  5. The management at Bugatti decided to work further on the idea of a four door saloon in the form of the Bugatti Galibier.
  6. You will probably think: but I only saw this car; the Galibier, as a concept car. That is true.
  7. For the Galibier model the idea was to install the engine in the front, then this was followed by the two front seats and a rear bench with two individual seats.
  8. And so; the new Bugatti Galibier concept car would have to share its idea and concept with that of the newly introduced Bentley four door saloon called the Mulsanne.
  9. But then; the two top cars of Bentley and Bugatti would virtually be operating in the same market segment....so the decision was made to position the Bugatti Galibier just one step further up the ladder....
  10. But if you take the competitor of the new Galibier model, which had been positioned one step further up the ladder, then its competitor would be the Rolls Royce Phantom.
  11. But in order to achieve that; the proportions of the Galibier had to be changed.... and what happened?
  12. The top CEO of Volkswagen; Ferdinand Piech, came into the Bugatti design studios one day and saw the newly designed Galibier model.....
  13. So the Bugatti Galibier model was not the successor to the Bugatti Veyron model.
  14. So how did that come about? Well, Ferdinand Piech was in the design studio on that very day that the decision was made to axe the Bugatti Galibier project.
  15. Ferdinand Piech asked the chief designer at Bugatti; what is Plan B? Because Plan A was that the Galibier model would succeed the Veyron model.
  16. So when Ferdinand Piech; the then top CEO of the Volkswagen brand decided to axe the Galibier project on the 9th of May 2012; the successor to the Veyron was almost ready for production.
  17. The idea was to introduce a second model for the Bugatti brand. The original pricetag for the Veyron model was 1,1 million Euros. The Galibier was to have a similar pricetag. Those are prices without taxes.
  18. And what about the engine? Well, you might expect a 16 cylinder engine as one can find in the Galibier and Chiron models but not so.....
  19. Well, for the Galibier model, it was decided that Bugatti would synergize with Bentley....
  20. And how can we forget the epic scenes of the snowy Galibier back in 2013 at the Giro d'Italia?
