Hi, this is Dr. Fowlkes and welcome to The 45-Second Answer. So today's question is:

Hey Dr. Fowlkes, what is bisexual? I've heard that the definition has changed.

What does it mean now? That's an excellent question.

So, bisexual used to mean that you're attracted to a man or a woman. But, what

we've come to understand is that gender really doesn't operate on a binary. It's

much more nuanced than that and so now when we say bisexual what most people

mean is that they are attracted to two or more genders and that they are

attracted to the same and different gender. So when you think bi now when you

think of those two things think of two or more, same and different. So now, when

someone says I'm bisexual what they're saying is I'm attracted to my gender

type and at least one or more other gender types. It's really important to

understand that, so that you don't think that people are operating on the binary

if they really aren't
