HE SAW SHARON LAYING ON THE GROUND,

AND HE SAW SOME SORT OF MOVEMENT WHICH SCARED HIM.

HE GRABS A FIREARM AND SHOOTS THE INTRUDER.

AND THAT'S WHEN I JUST PUSHED, AND BOOM, BOOM, BOOM.

HIS WIFE HAD BEEN KILLED,

AND HE EMERGED VICTORIOUS IN A GUN BATTLE FOR HIS LIFE.

-BOOM, BOOM! -HE WAS A HERO.

A NEWS SEGMENT CAME ON.

IT WAS SHARON.

I COULDN'T BELIEVE WHAT I WAS SEEING.

I WAS IN SHOCK. IT WAS A SAD THING.

Long: I TALKED TO THE LEAD DETECTIVE, AND HE TELLS ME THAT,

"I'M HAVING ISSUES WITH THE CRIME SCENE."

I WAS LIKE, "YOU'RE CRAZY."

O'Kelley: THE GAP FROM THE SHOOTING TO THE 911 CALL

PIQUED MY CURIOSITY.

Long: SHE IS DEAD IN THE HALLWAY, AND THERE IS A MALE

LAYING IN THE GARAGE DECEASED.

THE CASE IS DONE.

SO WHEN YOU FIRST FIRE...

YOUR INSTINCTS TOLD YOU THAT NOTHING WAS ADDING UP.

YES.

THE EVIDENCE DIDN'T MATCH UP.

AS A DETECTIVE, THE JOB IS TO FIND THE TRUTH...

-BOOM, BOOM! -...I HAD TO PUSH BACK.

CAPTIONS PAID FOR BY DISCOVERY COMMUNICATIONS

HI. I'M PAULA ZAHN.

AND TONIGHT WE'RE ON THE CASE IN LAS VEGAS, NEVADA.

THE POPULAR TOURIST DESTINATION WAS THE SETTING

FOR A DISTURBING TRAGEDY,

WHEN AN ATTEMPTED HOME ROBBERY TURNED INTO A DEADLY SHOOTOUT.

BUT AS POLICE SIFTED THROUGH THE EVIDENCE AT THE SCENE,

AND EVEN DARKER PLOT SLOWLY EMERGED,

ONE THAT WOULD SHOCK THE COMMUNITY

AND PUT LAW ENFORCEMENT ON THE TRAIL

OF A POTENTIAL SERIAL KILLER.

MAY 8, 2008. IT WAS A COOL SPRING EVENING

WHEN THE LAS VEGAS METRO POLICE DEPARTMENT

GOT A FRANTIC CALL FROM A MAN WHO HAD JUST WALKED INTO

AN ARMED ROBBERY IN PROGRESS IN HIS OWN HOME.

[ GUNSHOTS ]

53-YEAR-OLD TOM RANDOLPH TOLD POLICE

THAT HIS WIFE SHARON HAD BEEN BADLY WOUNDED

AND THAT HE HAD SHOT HER ATTACKER MULTIPLE TIMES.

[ SIREN WAILS ]

TOM TOLD DISPATCHERS HE NEEDED

AN AMBULANCE FOR HIS WIFE.

[ GUNSHOT ]

OFFICERS AND E.M.S. WORKERS ARRIVED AND FOUND TOM

DESPERATELY TRYING CPR ON SHARON,

BUT SADLY, SHE WAS ALREADY GONE.

AS HOMICIDE DETECTIVE DEAN O'KELLEY RACED

TO THE SCENE, HE KNEW LITTLE ABOUT WHAT HAD HAPPENED.

WERE YOU GIVEN ANY INDICATION ABOUT

THE STATUS OF THE VICTIMS?

THERE WAS AN INTRUDER,

AND TWO PEOPLE ARE DEAD.

WERE YOU GIVEN ANY OTHER DETAILS?

NO.

Zahn: WHEN DETECTIVE O'KELLEY AND HIS FELLOW INVESTIGATORS

ENTERED THE HOME, EVIDENCE FROM THE TERRIFYING ATTACK

WAS EVERYWHERE THEY LOOKED.

SO WHEN WE FIRST CAME INTO THE HOUSE, WE COULD SEE AT

THE OPPOSITE END OF THE HALLWAY SHARON RANDOLPH

LAYING ON HER BACK.

HER FACE WAS COVERED IN BLOOD.

THERE WAS BLOOD SPATTER ON THE DOOR.

THERE WAS A PHONE LAYING ON HER LAP

THAT STILL HAD THE NUMBERS 911 DISPLAYED ON THE PANEL.

Zahn: THE EVIDENCE INDICATED THAT 57-YEAR-OLD SHARON RANDOLPH

HAD BEEN ATTACKED FROM BEHIND BY A GUN WIELDING INTRUDER.

WHAT KINDS OF WOUNDS DID SHARON SUFFER?

SHE HAD A SINGLE GUNSHOT WOUND TOWARDS THE BACK OF HER HEAD.

[ GUNSHOT ]

BASED ON WHAT YOU SAW AT THE SCENE,

COULD YOU DETERMINE IF SHE EVER SAW HER ATTACKER?

SHE NEVER SAW IT COMING.

AS SOON AS SHE PASSED THE HALLWAY BATHROOM,

THE SHOT WAS FIRED.

[ GUNSHOT ]

Zahn: AT THE OTHER END OF THAT LONG HALLWAY,

JUST OUTSIDE THE DOORWAY TO THE GARAGE

WAS THE BODY OF SHARON'S KILLER, A MASKED INTRUDER TOM RANDOLPH

SAID HE HAD SHOT AS HE TRIED TO ESCAPE.

[ GUNSHOT ]

O'Kelley: THE BODY WAS LAYING ON THE GROUND.

HIS LEGS WERE IN THIS DIRECTION.

THERE WAS SOME BLOOD THAT WAS TRAILING AWAY FROM WHERE

HIS HEAD WAS.

Zahn: THE OFFICERS THEN SHARED A SURPRISING DETAIL

WITH DETECTIVE O'KELLEY.

TOM RANDOLPH BELIEVED THAT HE ACTUALLY KNEW THE IDENTITY

OF THE MASKED INTRUDER.

DID HE TELL POLICE HE RECOGNIZED

THE MAN HE HAD JUST SHOT?

YES. THE MASK HAD PUSHED UP ON HIS CHIN

EXPOSING THE BOTTOM PORTION OF HIS FACE,

AND THAT THAT WAS HOW HE RECOGNIZED HIM.

Zahn: TOM SAID THE MAN WHO KILLED HIS WIFE

WAS 38-YEAR-OLD MIKE MILLER,

A HANDYMAN WHO HAD DONE A SERIES OF ODD JOBS FOR THE COUPLE.

TOM RANDOLPH SAID THAT HE HAD QUITE A DEBILITATING BACK ISSUE,

AND SO HE HAD MIKE MILLER DOING THINGS FOR HIM AROUND THE HOUSE.

[ DRILL WHIRRING ]

Zahn: BUT NOW TOM FEARED THAT MILLER HAD ACTUALLY

TAKEN THE JOBS AS A WAY OF CASING THE RANDOLPH'S HOME

FOR A ROBBERY.

DID MILLER HAVE A CRIMINAL HISTORY?

HE HAD SOME PETTY THINGS, SOME MINOR INCIDENTS.

Zahn: THE CRIME SCENE INDICATED THAT MILLER KNEW EXACTLY WHERE

TO FIND SHARON'S JEWELRY AND OTHER ITEMS HE HOPED TO STEAL.

THERE WERE SOME DRAWERS THAT WERE ON THE FLOOR

IN THE MASTER BEDROOM, A SAFE WAS OPEN.

HE SPENT ENOUGH TIME IN THERE ON VARIOUS PROJECTS

TO PRETTY MUCH KNOW WHERE EVERYTHING WAS LOCATED.

Zahn: POLICE FOUND A TOTE BAG

FILLED WITH THE VALUABLES HE HAD GATHERED.

THERE WAS A LOT OF LADIES JEWELRY

THAT WAS INSIDE THE BAG.

DID YOU FIND CASH?

NO, THERE WASN'T ANY CASH.

INSIDE THE BAG WITH THE JEWELRY, THERE WAS ALSO A KEY

THAT WE LATER FOUND OUT BELONGED TO ONE OF THE SAFES

THAT WAS IN THE MASTER BEDROOM CLOSET AND A KEY TO THE HOUSE.

Zahn: THE KEYS TOLD POLICE

THAT MILLER HAD BEEN PLANNING THE ROBBERY FOR SOME TIME

AND THAT HE EXPECTED THAT NO ONE WOULD BE HOME.

DID INVESTIGATORS THINK IT WAS POSSIBLE

THAT HE HAD PRE-PLANNED THIS WEEKS IN ADVANCE

AND HE JUST WAITED FOR THE RIGHT OPPORTUNITY?

YEAH, ON THE SURFACE, IT COULD HAVE JUST BEEN THAT.

DID MILLER KNOW THAT TOM AND SHARON WERE GOING

OUT TO DINNER THAT NIGHT?

YES, HE DID.

TOM SAID THAT THEY HAD SPENT

SOME TIME TOGETHER EARLIER IN THE DAY.

Zahn: TOM TOLD POLICE THAT MILLER MIGHT HAVE ALREADY

BEEN GONE IF THEY HAD NOT ARRIVED HOME EARLY THAT NIGHT.

IT LOOKED LIKE SHARON HAD WALKED IN JUST AS MILLER

WAS PREPARING TO LEAVE.

[ GUNSHOT ]

DID THIS APPEAR TO INVESTIGATORS

TO BE AN OPEN AND SHUT CASE?

IT DID. HERE WAS A MAN THAT HIS WIFE HAD BEEN KILLED

AND HE CONFRONTED THIS ARMED INTRUDER

AND HE EMERGED VICTORIOUS IN A GUN BATTLE FOR HIS LIFE.

Zahn: ALTHOUGH AUTHORITIES WERE READY TO CLOSE THE CASE,

DETECTIVE O'KELLEY STILL HAD A FEW QUESTIONS

BUT EVEN HE COULDN'T HAVE EXPECTED

WHERE THE ANSWERS WOULD LEAD.

[ GUNSHOT ]

LAS VEGAS POLICE WERE INVESTIGATING

THE MURDER OF SHARON RANDOLPH.

THE 57-YEAR-OLD HAD BEEN KILLED

DURING AN ARMED ROBBERY IN HER HOME.

HER HUSBAND TOM HAD THEN SHOT HER ATTACKER TO DEATH

AS HE ATTEMPTED TO FLEE THE CRIME SCENE.

BUT AS INVESTIGATORS STUDIED THE EVIDENCE,

QUESTIONS BEGAN TO SURFACE

ABOUT HOW THE ATTACK HAD ACTUALLY UNFOLDED.

WHILE LAW ENFORCEMENT CONTINUED TO PIECE TOGETHER

THE CONFUSING DETAILS OF SHARON RANDOLPH'S MURDER...

...THOSE CLOSEST TO HER WERE JUST GETTING THE TRAGIC NEWS.

DEIDRA MARLEY WILL NEVER FORGET HOW SHE FOUND OUT

THAT HER DEAR FRIEND HAD BEEN KILLED.

I HAD MY PHONE IN MY HAND TO CALL SHARON,

AND I CLICKED THE TELEVISION ON, AND A NEWS SEGMENT CAME ON.

A HANDY MAN SHOT THE WIFE,

AND THE HUSBAND SHOT THE HANDY MAN.

I COULDN'T BELIEVE WHAT I WAS SEEING, AND IT WAS SHARON.

Zahn: DEIDRA'S HEART SANK.

SHARON HAD BEEN THE PERFECT GIRLFRIEND,

SOMEONE SHE HAD SHARED GOOD TIMES WITH AND BAD.

AT THE HAIR SALON WHERE THE TWO WOMEN WORKED,

SHARON WAS KNOWN FOR HER WARM SMILE AND FUNNY STORIES.

DID SHE ENJOY HER WORK?

YEAH, SHE WAS VERY GOOD AT IT BECAUSE SHE WAS A PEOPLE PERSON.

SHE JUST HAD SUCH A BIG HEART AND LOVED PEOPLE.

SHE HAD A BUBBLY PERSONALITY, VERY FRIENDLY, VERY WELCOMING.

I CAN STILL SEE HER WORK ON HER CUSTOMERS

AND LAUGH WITH THEM.

SHE DID LOVE TO HAVE FUN.

Zahn: SHARON'S FRIENDS WERE LEFT TO WONDER

WHY ANYONE WOULD HAVE WANTED

TO HURT SUCH A KIND AND GENEROUS WOMAN.

[ POLICE RADIO CHATTER ]

MEANWHILE BACK AT THE CRIME SCENE,

DETECTIVE DEAN O'KELLEY WAS TRYING TO FIND OUT THAT ANSWER,

AND THAT MEANT TAKING A HARD LOOK AT THE EVENTS

LEADING UP TO HER MURDER.

[ GUNSHOT ]

WHAT DID TOM RANDOLPH SAY HAD HAPPENED

EARLIER THAT EVENING?

TOM TOLD THE INITIAL RESPONDING OFFICERS THAT HE HAD

COME BACK FROM A DINNER WITH HIS WIFE,

THAT HE PULLED INTO THE DRIVEWAY

AND ALLOWED SHARON TO GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE FIRST.

AND WHAT WAS HIS EXPLANATION FOR THAT?

THE SPACE TO PARK WAS TOO NARROW TO ALLOW BOTH PEOPLE

TO BE INSIDE THE GARAGE AND OPEN THEIR DOORS.

Zahn: TOM TOLD INVESTIGATORS HE LINGERED IN THE CAR

TO LISTEN TO THE END OF A SONG AND THAT HE HAD NOT HEARD

THE GUNSHOT THAT KILLED HIS WIFE.

[ GUNSHOT ]

WHAT DID HE SAY HAPPENED AFTER THAT?

O'Kelley: HE SAID THAT WHEN HE WENT INTO THE HOUSE,

HE OPENED UP THE DOOR, AND HE SAW SHARON LAYING ON THE GROUND

AT THE OPPOSITE END OF THE HALLWAY.

THAT HE SAW SOME SORT OF MOVEMENT,

WHICH SCARED HIM.

Zahn: TOM THEN INSTINCTIVELY DUCKED INTO HIS OFFICE

AND GRABBED HIS 9-MILLIMETER HANDGUN.

HOW DID HE HAVE THE FORESIGHT TO GRAB HIS GUN?

I THINK JUST BECAUSE SHARON WAS DOWN

AND BECAUSE HE SAW SOMEONE ELSE INSIDE THE HOUSE,

HE REACHED FOR THE GUN TO DEFEND HIMSELF.

Zahn: TOM SAID WHEN HE STEPPED OUT OF THE OFFICE,

HE COLLIDED WITH A MASKED INTRUDER.

HE SAW HIM REACHING FOR HIS WAISTBAND.

HE PUSHED HIM BACK AND SHOT HIM AND CONTINUED TO SHOOT HIM

AS HE RETREATED INTO THE GARAGE.

[ GUNSHOTS ]

WHEN DID HE REALIZE THE BURGLAR WAS SOMEONE HE KNEW?

RIGHT AFTER THE SHOOTING STARTED

AND CERTAINLY AFTER HE WENT TO THE GROUND

AND HE SHOT HIM THE LAST TIME.

[ GUNSHOT ]

Zahn: NEARLY ALL THE INVESTIGATORS ON THE SCENE

BELIEVED IT WAS AN OPEN AND SHUT CASE.

[ CAMERA SHUTTER CLICKS ]

IT'S REALLY STRAIGHTFORWARD. EVERYTHING MAKES SENSE.

[ GUNSHOTS ]

SHE IS DEAD IN THE HALLWAY, RIGHT WHERE HE SAID

SHE WOULD BE, AND THERE IS A MALE LAYING IN THE GARAGE...

...DECEASED.

THE CASE IS DONE.

Zahn: AND THE INVESTIGATION MIGHT HAVE ENDED THAT WAY

IF NOT FOR DETECTIVE DEAN O'KELLEY,

WHO STILL HAD SOME NAGGING DOUBTS.

I TALKED TO THE LEAD, DETECTIVE DEAN O'KELLEY,

AND HE TELLS ME THAT, "I'M HAVING ISSUES WITH

THE CRIME SCENE, AND I WANT TO SHOW YOU WHAT I HAVE."

I WAS LIKE, "OKAY, YOU'RE CRAZY."

Zahn: DESPITE THE PUSHBACK FROM HIS COLLEAGUES,

DETECTIVE O'KELLEY CONTINUED TO GATHER INFORMATION.

COULD YOU FIND ANY WITNESSES

WHO HEARD GUNSHOT FIRE THAT NIGHT?

YES, WE DID. A NEIGHBOR BY THE NAME OF MARK BARTLETT.

Zahn: THE NEIGHBOR SAID HE HAD JUST MADE A PHONE CALL

TO A FRIEND WHEN HE WAS STARTLED BY THE SOUND OF GUNFIRE.

HE HEARD ALL FIVE SHOTS.

[ GUNSHOTS ]

DID HE CALL THE POLICE?

HE DID CALL THE POLICE.

[ SIRENS WAILING ]

Zahn: THE WITNESS ACCOUNT PROVIDED A DOCUMENTED

AND CLEAR TIMELINE OF WHEN

THE SERIES OF GUNSHOTS HAD TAKEN PLACE.

WE KNEW THE EXACT MOMENT THAT HE HAD MADE THAT PHONE CALL

TO HIS FRIEND, WHICH WAS 8:33.

Zahn: THE TIME WAS PUZZLING.

TOM'S 911 CALL HAD COME IN 11 MINUTES LATER.

HOW DID RANDOLPH EXPLAIN THE 11 MINUTE GAP

BETWEEN THE TIME THAT THE NEIGHBOR HEARD SHOTS FIRED

AND THE TIME HE CALLED 911?

THAT HE TRIED TO CALL TO 911 AND HE COULDN'T GET THROUGH

INITIALLY, BUT HE RE-ATTEMPTED AND WAS ABLE TO CONTACT.

Zahn: TOM'S ACCOUNT EXPLAINED

A FEW SECOND DELAY, NOT OVER 10 MINUTES.

THAT DISCREPANCY LED DETECTIVE O'KELLEY TO ASK TOM

TO TAKE HIM THROUGH HIS STORY ONE MORE TIME.

THAT'S WHEN I JUST PUSHED HIM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM!

AND HE STARTED GOING OUT TOWARD THE SHED

AND THE RESULTS OF THAT VIDEOTAPE WALK-THROUGH

SENT THE CASE IN A WHOLE NEW DIRECTION.

BOOM, BOOM!

AND I MEAN, I ACTUALLY GOT CLOSE.

BOOM, BOOM!

POLICE INVESTIGATING THE MURDER OF SHARON RANDOLPH

WERE FACED WITH SOME PUZZLING QUESTIONS.

THE BIGGEST WAS WHY THERE HAD BEEN AN 11-MINUTE GAP

BETWEEN THE TIME A NEIGHBOR HEARD A SERIES OF GUNSHOTS

AND WHEN DISPATCHERS GOT THE 911 CALL FROM

SHARON'S HUSBAND.

AND AS DETECTIVES CONTINUE TO SEARCH FOR ANSWERS,

WHAT THEY UNCOVERED ONLY DEEPENED THE MYSTERY.

DETECTIVE DEAN O'KELLEY HAD BEEN THE ONLY INVESTIGATOR

ON THE CASE, WHO STILL HAD QUESTIONS

ABOUT TOM RANDOLPH'S STORY.

[ GUNSHOT ]

BASED ON WHAT HE TOLD INITIAL OFFICERS,

THE GUY'S A HERO, AND I HAD TO PUSH BACK.

WAS THAT DIFFICULT?

IT IS, ANY TIME YOU'RE BUTTING HEADS

WITH A COLLEAGUE.

Zahn: DETECTIVE O'KELLEY KNEW IT WAS POSSIBLE

THAT TOM HAD GOTTEN SOME OF THE DETAILS WRONG.

BUT ONE SEEMED IMPOSSIBLE TO EXPLAIN --

THE TIME LAPSE BETWEEN WHEN A NEIGHBOR

HAD HEARD THE GUNSHOTS...

[ GUNSHOTS ] ...AND HIS OWN CALL TO

911 TO REPORT THE SHOOTING.

DID INVESTIGATORS THINK IT WAS POSSIBLE THAT RANDOLPH

WAS SO TRAUMATIZED HE FROZE...

ABSOLUTELY.

...AND DIDN'T CALL

911 RIGHT AWAY?

ABSOLUTELY.

BUT YOU DON'T REALIZE HOW LONG 11 MINUTES IS.

IF WE SAT HERE IN SILENCE FOR 11 MINUTES, YOU KNOW,

VIEWERS WOULD SWITCH CHANNELS.

IT'S A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF TIME.

Zahn: DETECTIVE O'KELLEY WAS CONVINCED HE HAD TO

DIG DEEPER TO UNDERSTAND WHAT HAD REALLY HAPPENED.

YOUR INSTINCTS TOLD YOU THAT NOTHING WAS ADDING UP,

BUT YOU WERE GONNA HAVE TO PROVE THAT YOU WERE RIGHT.

WHERE DID YOU START?

WE HAD THE IDEA TO DO A VIDEO WALK-THROUGH WITH TOM.

HE AGREED TO DO IT.

HE DIDN'T HAVE ANY IDEA THAT I HAD ANY ISSUES WITH THE SCENE.

HE JUMPED AT THE OPPORTUNITY TO DECLARE HIS INNOCENCE.

MY NAME IS TOM RANDOLPH. MY DATE OF BIRTH IS...

Zahn: INVESTIGATORS MET TOM AT HIS HOME ONE WEEK AFTER

THE MURDER AT EXACTLY THE SAME TIME OF NIGHT

IN WHICH THE ATTACK HAD TAKEN PLACE.

WITH A CAMERA ROLLING, INVESTIGATORS LISTENED

AS TOM TOLD HIS STORY.

Randolph: I STOPPED THE CAR. SHARON GETS OUT.

HOW LONG DID HE SAY HE WAITED OUTSIDE

AFTER SHARON ENTERED THE HOME?

JUST A FEW MOMENTS.

HE SAID HE STAYED TO FINISH

LISTENING TO A SONG THAT HE LIKED.

HE HAD THE VOLUME TURNED UP.

THAT WAS HIS EXPLANATION FOR NOT HEARING THE GUNSHOT.

Zahn: THEN TOM EXPLAINED WHAT HAPPENED NEXT.

THIS DOOR WAS CLOSED.

SO I OPENED IT UP.

I GET RIGHT HERE, AND SHARON'S LAYING

IN THE FLOOR, FACE DOWN.

I SAID, "SHARON! SHARON?"

Zahn: AS TOM MOVED TOWARDS HIS WIFE,

HE NOTICED SOMETHING OUT OF THE CORNER OF HIS EYE.

I THOUGHT I JUST SEEN LIKE A SHADOW

OR SOMETHING OVER THIS WAY.

AND I REMEMBERED THAT THERE'S THE 9-MILLIMETER

RIGHT UP HERE, AND I JUST REACHED UP

JUST LIKE THAT, GRABBED IT, STUCK IT IN MY POCKET,

CAME AROUND JUST LIKE THAT, AND ABOUT THAT TIME,

HE'S RIGHT UP ON ME, JUST RIGHT UP ON ME.

AND WE ACTUALLY TOUCHED RIGHT ABOUT HERE.

OKAY, SO HE'S STANDING...

DETECTIVE O' KELLEY LISTENED CAREFULLY

AS TOM WENT THROUGH THE DETAILS OF HIS CONFRONTATION

WITH THE MASKED GUNMAN.

AND THAT'S WHEN I JUST PUSHED, AND BOOM, BOOM, BOOM!

Zahn: DETECTIVE O'KELLEY WAS TROUBLED BY

TOM'S DESCRIPTION OF THE DEADLY ENCOUNTER.

BOOM! BOOM!

IT SIMPLY DIDN'T MATCH THE EVIDENCE.

O'Kelley: IF HE HAD ENCOUNTERED HIM AT THE OPENING OF THE OFFICE

AND STARTED SHOOTING AT HIM AS HE'S RUNNING,

WE WOULD SEE HIS SHOTS TO THE BACK OF THE BODY.

WE DIDN'T SEE THAT.

DOES IT LOOK LIKE HE WAS, YOU KNOW, FLEEING THE SCENE?

HE WASN'T SHOT IN THE BACK.

Zahn: THE LOCATIONS OF THE SHELL CASINGS

POLICE RECOVERED ALSO SEEMED TO CONTRADICT TOM'S ACCOUNT.

TOM RANDOLPH TOLD US THAT HE HAD THE SHOOTING START

IN THE HALLWAY AT THE ENTRANCE OF THE OFFICE.

WE DIDN'T HAVE BALLISTIC EVIDENCE IN THE HALLWAY.

WE DIDN'T HAVE BLOOD.

Zahn: IN FACT, THE EVIDENCE INDICATED ALL OF THE SHOTS

WERE FIRED AFTER MILLER WAS ALREADY IN THE GARAGE.

WHAT WE DID HAVE IS ONE SHELL CASING INSIDE THE THRESHOLD,

WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN FIRED AS HE WAS EXITING THE DOOR.

WE HAD TWO OVER HERE.

WE HAD ONE OVER HERE.

Zahn: BUT PERHAPS THE MOST IMPORTANT DISCREPANCY

IN TOM'S STORY INVOLVED THE FATAL SHOT TO THE HEAD

MIKE MILLER HAD SUFFERED.

ONE OF THOSE LAST BULLETS TRAVELED THROUGH

MIKE MILLER'S HEAD.

[ GUNSHOT ]

THE SKI MASK DIDN'T HAVE ANY HOLES IN IT.

THERE WAS NO BLOOD ON THE SKI MASK,

AND IT WAS QUITE A DISTANCE AWAY FROM HIS HEAD.

Zahn: IT APPEARED MIKE MILLER HAD TAKEN THE SKI MASK OFF

BEFORE HE WAS SHOT.

AND AN INJURY DISCOVERED DURING HIS AUTOPSY

SEEMED TO CONFIRM THAT.

THERE WAS A BURN MARK ON THE RIGHT TEMPLE AREA.

WHEN WE LOOK AT THE CRIME SCENE PHOTOS,

YOU CAN SEE THAT THERE WAS A HALF BURNT CIGARETTE

ON THE GROUND.

THAT WAS RIGHT WHERE MIKE MILLER'S HEAD CAME TO REST.

Zahn: DETECTIVE O'KELLEY BELIEVED THERE WAS ONLY ONE

EXPLANATION FOR THE EVIDENCE.

MIKE MILLER WAS SMOKING A CIGARETTE

WHEN HE WENT TO THE GROUND.

Zahn: BUT WHY WOULD MIKE MILLER HAVE REMOVED HIS MASK

AND LIT A CIGARETTE IF HE HAD BEEN

DESPERATELY FLEEING THE CRIME SCENE?

DETECTIVE O'KELLEY BELIEVED THE EVIDENCE PROVED

MILLER WAS IN NO HURRY TO ESCAPE.

IT APPEARED HE WAS RELAXING WHEN HE WAS SHOT.

WAS HE SMOKING A CIGARETTE DURING THE ARMED ENCOUNTER,

OR WAS HE SMOKING A CIGARETTE THINKING,

"I'M GOING TO GET OUT OF HERE WITH ONE OF THE CARS,

IT'S ALL GOING TO BE GOOD,

AND I'LL GET MY PAY DAY DOWN THE ROAD.

IS THAT WHAT YOUR THEORY CAME TO BE?

YES.

[ GUNSHOTS ]

HE'S DEALING WITH A FRIEND.

HE'S WALKING INTO THE GARAGE TO LOAD EVERYTHING UP AND LEAVE

BEFORE THE POLICE GET THERE, AND HE WAS AMBUSHED.

Zahn: FOR DETECTIVE O'KELLEY A NEW PICTURE OF THE ATTACK

WAS QUICKLY COMING INTO FOCUS.

MILLER WASN'T A MASKED INTRUDER

CAUGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF A ROBBERY.

HE WAS ACTUALLY A HIT MAN HIRED BY TOM RANDOLPH

TO KILL HIS WIFE.

AND AFTER MILLER KILLED SHARON...

[ GUNSHOT ]

...RANDOLPH ADDED A FINAL TWIST

TO THE DEADLY PLOT BY KILLING THE ONLY WITNESS TO THE CRIME.

[ GUNSHOT ]

WHEN DETECTIVE O'KELLEY LAID OUT HIS THEORY TO HIS

FELLOW INVESTIGATORS, MOST WERE STILL SKEPTICAL

AND WONDERED HOW HE WAS EVER GOING TO PROVE HIS CASE.

YOUR HIRED GUN IS ON THE FLOOR OF THE GARAGE, HE'S DEAD.

[ GUNSHOT ]

HE'S NOT GONNA TELL YOU ANYTHING.

SO AT THAT POINT, IT'S GONNA BE AN UPHILL BATTLE.

BOOM, BOOM!

[ GUNSHOT ]

BOOM!

POLICE INVESTIGATING THE MURDER OF SHARON RANDOLPH

NO LONGER BELIEVE THE HOME INVASION IN WHICH

SHE WAS KILLED WAS AN OPEN AND SHUT CASE.

A VIDEO WALK THROUGH WITH HER HUSBAND TOM

POINTED OUT CRITICAL DISCREPANCIES BETWEEN HIS

VERSION OF EVENTS AND THE PHYSICAL EVIDENCE

FOUND AT THE CRIME SCENE.

IN FACT, AS DETECTIVE DEAN O'KELLEY

PIECED TOGETHER ALL THE CLUES,

A MUCH MORE SINISTER PLOT CAME INTO FOCUS.

EVEN AFTER DETECTIVE DEAN O'KELLEY

LAID OUT ALL THE CONTRADICTIONS IN RANDOLPH'S STORY,

HIS COLLEAGUES WERE STILL NOT CERTAIN HE WAS RIGHT.

BUT A DEEP DIVE INTO RANDOLPH'S PAST HELPED CONVINCE

EVERYONE HE WAS NOT THE HEROIC AND HEARTBROKEN HUSBAND

HE PRETENDED TO BE.

BOOM!

WHEN YOU LOOKED INTO RANDOLPH'S MARITAL HISTORY,

WHAT DID YOU FIND OUT?

THAT HE HAD BEEN MARRIED QUITE A FEW TIMES,

THAT SEVERAL OF THOSE WIVES WERE DEAD.

Zahn: INCLUDING SHARON, FOUR OUT OF RANDOLPH'S SIX WIVES

WERE DECEASED, AND AT LEAST TWO OTHERS HAD DIED

UNDER MYSTERIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES.

DETECTIVE O'KELLEY BEGAN TAKING A HARD LOOK AT THE DETAILS

SURROUNDING THE DEATH OF FRANCIS RANDOLPH

JUST FOUR YEARS BEFORE SHARON'S MURDER.

FRANCIS, WHO WAS TOM RANDOLPH'S FIFTH WIFE,

SHE HAD A HEART CONDITION,

AND SHE JUST HAD OPEN HEART SURGERY.

Zahn: A FEW DAYS LATER, FRIENDS AND FAMILY BELIEVE

THAT FRANCIS WAS ON THE ROAD TO RECOVERY,

BUT SOMETHING WENT TERRIBLY WRONG

AND FRANCIS SUDDENLY STOPPED BREATHING.

TOM WAS THE ONLY ONE IN THE ROOM WHEN SHE DIED.

AND WHEN THEY CAME INTO THE ROOM,

HE HAD BLOOD DOWN THE FRONT OF HIS SHIRT

THAT HE CLAIMED CAME FROM HIS GRIEF STRICKEN EMBRACE

OF FRANCIS.

[ BEEPING, FLAT-LINING ]

Zahn: THOSE CLOSEST TO FRANCIS WERE CONVINCED THAT TOM RANDOLPH

HAD BEEN RESPONSIBLE FOR HER SUDDEN AND UNEXPLAINED DEATH.

BUT HOSPITAL OFFICIALS AND POLICE FOUND NO SOLID EVIDENCE

THAT CONFIRMED THOSE SUSPICIONS.

DID HE HAVE AN INSURANCE POLICY ON HER?

HE DID.

DID HE CASH IT IN?

HE DID.

THAT PAID OUT RELATIVELY QUICKLY.

HE ALSO FILED A LAWSUIT AGAINST THE HOSPITAL.

Zahn: AND TOM MADE CERTAIN THAT NO OFFICIAL INVESTIGATION

COULD EVER BE DONE.

HE HAD HER BODY CREMATED IMMEDIATELY.

BEFORE AN AUTOPSY COULD BE PERFORMED?

THAT'S TRUE.

Zahn: NO CHARGES WERE EVER FILED AGAINST TOM RELATED TO

FRANCIS RANDOLPH'S DEATH, BUT THE CONTROVERSY

RAISED QUESTIONS FOR POLICE IN, CLEARFIELD, UTAH,

ABOUT THE UNTIMELY PASSING OF ANOTHER OF TOM'S

FORMER WIVES, BECKY RANDOLPH.

IN 1986, POLICE BELIEVED THAT BECKY HAD TAKEN HER OWN LIFE,

BUT A YEAR LATER, A WITNESS WITH A CHILLING STORY

RAISED DOUBTS ABOUT THAT RULING.

WAS HER SUICIDE EVER INVESTIGATED

AS A POTENTIAL MURDER?

IT WAS. AN INDIVIDUAL BY THE NAME OF ERIC TARANTINO

CAME FORWARD TELLING POLICE THAT TOM RANDOLPH

HAD TRIED TO GET HIM TO KILL BECKY.

Zahn: ERIC TARANTINO'S ALLEGATIONS WERE STUNNING.

HE TOLD POLICE HE WAS CERTAIN THAT TOM HAD KILLED BECKY

AND STAGED THE SCENE TO MAKE IT LOOK LIKE A SUICIDE.

IN FACT, TOM HAD TRIED TO CONVINCE TARANTINO

TO BE HIS HIT MAN.

THEY HAD PRACTICED VARIOUS SCENARIOS.

ONE OF THEM WOULD BE A HOME INVASION BURGLARY.

Zahn: THE ROBBERY GONE WRONG PLOT THAT TARANTINO SHARED WITH

UTAH POLICE WAS ALMOST IDENTICAL TO WHAT HAPPENED TO SHARON

YEARS LATER.

[ GUNSHOT ]

BUT INSTEAD OF FOLLOWING THROUGH WITH THE PLAN,

TARANTINO GOT COLD FEET

AND FLED THE STATE TO ESCAPE FROM RANDOLPH.

HE COMPLETELY PANICS.

HE DIDN'T WANT ANY PART OF IT.

DROPS HIS ENTIRE LIFE IN UTAH

AND MOVES ALMOST 3,000 MILES AWAY.

THIS IS A GUY WHO'S BEEN LIVING SCARED [BLEEP]LESS.

Zahn: AND TARANTINO CLAIMED TOM RANDOLPH'S MOTIVE

WAS THE LIFE INSURANCE MONEY.

IN ALL, HOW MUCH MONEY DID TOM RANDOLPH MAKE?

IT WAS A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF MONEY.

WE'VE HEARD ALL THE WAY UP TO $1.2 MILLION.

[ GUNSHOTS ]

Zahn: THE WOULD BE HIT MAN'S STORY LED PROSECUTORS

TO RE-OPEN THE CASE AND CHARGE TOM RANDOLPH

WITH BECKY'S MURDER.

IT WAS ERIC TARANTINO'S ASSERTION THAT TOM RANDOLPH

KILLED BECKY RANDOLPH AND MADE IT LOOK LIKE A SUICIDE.

THE DETECTIVE INVOLVED, A PHENOMENAL DETECTIVE

BY THE NAME OF SCOTT CONNOLLY, HE DID A FABULOUS JOB OF TRYING

TO PIECE ALL THIS BACK TOGETHER,

BUT ULTIMATELY THE JURY ACQUITTED HIM.

Zahn: FOLLOWING HIS ACQUITTAL, RANDOLPH WAS ABLE TO GET

ALL OF THE CHARGES AGAINST HIM EXPUNGED FROM HIS RECORD.

AND DETECTIVE O'KELLEY BELIEVED THAT THE WORDS OF

BECKY'S HEARTBROKEN MOTHER AT THE CONCLUSION OF

RANDOLPH'S TRIAL HAD PROVEN TO BE SADLY PROPHETIC.

HE'S GUILTY, AND HE'S JUST GOING TO KILL

SOMEBODY ELSE'S DAUGHTER, SO BEWARE.

Zahn: AFTER HEARING WHAT HAPPENED TO BECKY RANDOLPH,

DETECTIVE O'KELLEY WAS CONVINCED THAT TOM HAD STRUCK AGAIN.

BOOM, BOOM, BOOM!

[ GUNSHOT ]

THIS TIME, THE PLAN WORKED.

ERIC TARANTINO WAS REPLACED BY MIKE MILLER,

AND HE HAD GONE THROUGH WITH THE MURDER OF SHARON RANDOLPH.

BUT UNBEKNOWNST TO MILLER, TOM HAD ADDED ANOTHER

DEADLY LAYER TO THE PLOT.

[ GUNSHOT ]

DO YOU THINK MILLER EVER HAD A SHOT AT STAYING ALIVE?

NO. YOU LEARN FROM YOUR MISTAKES.

I THINK THAT TOM RANDOLPH PLANNED ON KILLING MILLER

FROM THE BEGINNING.

HE WAS NEVER GONNA LIVE THROUGH THIS.

[ GUNSHOT ]

Zahn: DETECTIVE O'KELLEY WAS NOW MORE COMMITTED THAN EVER

TO MAKE SURE THAT RANDOLPH PAID FOR HIS CRIMES.

BUT WOULD THE EVIDENCE POLICE HAD BE ENOUGH

TO PUT HIM BEHIND BARS?

[ GUNSHOTS ]

THE INVESTIGATION INTO SHARON RANDOLPH'S MURDER

HAD TAKEN A TERRIFYING TURN.

THE LAS VEGAS METRO POLICE HAD DISCOVERED EVIDENCE

THAT MADE HER HUSBAND TOM THE PRIME SUSPECT IN THE CASE,

AND IT TURNED OUT THAT SHARON MAY NOT HAVE BEEN

THE FIRST WIFE TOM HAD KILLED.

POLICE BELIEVED IT WAS POSSIBLE HE HAD BEEN INVOLVED

IN THE DEATH OF AT LEAST TWO OTHER WOMEN.

IT WAS JANUARY OF 2009 WHEN DETECTIVE O'KELLEY

ARRIVED AT TOM RANDOLPH'S DOOR WITH AN ARREST WARRANT.

DID YOU GET THE IMPRESSION THAT HE STILL THOUGHT

HE WAS GONNA GET AWAY WITH MURDER?

I ABSOLUTELY BELIEVE THAT HE THOUGHT HE WAS GOING

TO GET AWAY WITH IT.

EVEN AFTER TOM WAS IN CUSTODY,

HE WAS TRYING TO TAKE HIS STORY AND MAKE IT FIT.

JAM THAT SQUARE PEG INTO A ROUND HOLE.

Zahn: BUT POLICE CONTINUE TO COMPILE EVIDENCE

THEY DISCOVERED A COMMON THREAD

IN THE WAY RANDOLPH MET WOMEN, SWEPT THEM OFF THEIR FEET,

MARRIED THEM, AND THEN TURNED THEIR LIVES INTO NIGHTMARES.

WOMEN THAT WERE IN A CERTAIN STATION IN THEIR LIFE

EMOTIONALLY, VULNERABLE, PEOPLE THAT WERE TRUSTING.

Zahn: GAYNA ALLMON WAS ONE OF THE WOMEN

WHO MANAGED TO MARRY RANDOLPH AND ESCAPE WITH HER LIFE.

Allmon: HE WAS A SMOOTH TALKER.

JUST THAT KIND OF ATTENTION THAT HE SHOWED YOU.

I MEAN, A REALLY GOOD TIME.

AFTER I HAD MARRIED HIM, WITHIN A FEW WEEKS,

IT WAS LIKE A NIGHTMARE.

Zahn: GAYNA LITERALLY RAN AWAY

AND HID FROM RANDOLPH DURING THEIR DIVORCE.

SHARON'S CLOSEST FRIENDS TOLD POLICE THAT RANDOLPH

HAD FOLLOWED THE SAME PATTERN WITH SHARON --

A WHIRLWIND ROMANCE

FOLLOWED BY A PRESSURE FILLED PROPOSAL OF MARRIAGE.

HE WANTED HER TO MARRY HIM.

OTHERWISE, HE WAS GOING TO LEAVE HER.

I HAD SUCH BAD FEELINGS.

I SAID, "SHARON, PLEASE DON'T MARRY HIM."

I SAID, "LET HIM GO. IT'S NO BIG LOSS."

Zahn: BUT SHARON MOVED FORWARD WITH THE ENGAGEMENT,

AND SHORTLY AFTER THE WEDDING,

RANDOLPH'S DEMEANOR QUICKLY CHANGED.

DID SHE SAY HE WAS CONTROLLING?

Wolfe: OH, YEAH, DEFINITELY.

HE WAS PLAYING GAMES WITH HER.

I THINK HE WAS TRYING TO MAKE HER SO DEPRESSED

THAT HE WAS HOPING THAT SHE WOULD KILL HERSELF.

SHE WAS GOING CRAZY.

Zahn: BUT JUST BEFORE HER MURDER, SHARON HAD QUIETLY BEGUN

TO EXPLORE WAYS OF GETTING AWAY FROM RANDOLPH.

DO YOU THINK SHE WAS AFRAID THAT HE WOULD RETALIATE

AGAINST HER IF SHE DID LEAVE HIM?

I THINK SHE WAS. I THINK SHE WAS.

I THINK TRULY SHE FELT THAT HE WAS GOING TO KILL HER.

Zahn: AND POLICE NOW BELIEVED

THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT RANDOLPH HAD DONE.

BUT WOULD INVESTIGATORS BE ABLE TO PROVE IT?

THEY CHARGED RANDOLPH WITH THE MURDERS OF HIS WIFE

AND HIS ACCOMPLICE MIKE MILLER.

ONCE YOU WERE READY TO GO TO TRIAL,

WHAT DID YOU THINK WAS THE STRONGEST PART OF YOUR CASE?

THE INITIAL SCENE.

AND THE VIDEO WALK-THROUGH.

IF YOU COMBINE PHYSICAL EVIDENCE, WHERE THINGS

WERE LOCATED WITH RANDOLPH'S STATEMENT

AND THE VIDEO WALK-THROUGH, THAT WAS ENOUGH.

[ CAMERA SHUTTER CLICKING ]

YOU THOUGHT THE JURY WOULD BE CONVINCED

THAT THERE WAS NO WAY THOSE MURDERS COULD HAVE

UNFOLDED THE WAY HE DESCRIBED THEM?

ABSOLUTELY.

THE BALLISTIC EVIDENCE AND THE BLOOD

AND THE WOUND PATTERN ON MILLER, WHEN THE SHOTS WERE FIRED.

I DIDN'T BELIEVE ANYBODY COULD SEE IT DIFFERENTLY.

Zahn: PROSECUTORS EXPLAIN TO THE JURY THAT THE MOTIVE

FOR THE MURDER WAS MONEY.

HE TREATED HIS WIVES AS IF THEY WERE ABSOLUTE PROPERTY.

AND IN FACT MADE A LIVING OFF THEIR DEATHS.

HOW MANY LIFE INSURANCE POLICIES

HAD RANDOLPH TAKEN ON SHARON?

HE HAD A $10,000 POLICY, HE HAD $100,000 POLICY,

HE HAD A $150,000.

WE HAD FOUR SEPARATE POLICIES THAT WE WERE ABLE TO FIND.

AND HOW LONG BEFORE HER MURDER

DID HE BUY THESE POLICIES?

HE ESTABLISHED POLICIES BEFORE THEY WERE MARRIED.

THEY HAD BEEN IN EXISTENCE FOR QUITE A FEW YEARS

PRIOR TO THE MURDER.

Zahn: RANDOLPH THEN BEGAN TO FORMULATE A COLD BLOODED PLAN

TO CASH IN THOSE POLICIES.

WHY DO YOU THINK REALLY HAPPENED THAT NIGHT?

MIKE MILLER IS IN THE HOUSE FOR A WHILE,

WAITING FOR THEM TO GET DONE EATING,

GAMBLE A LITTLE BIT, AND THEN COME BACK TO THE HOUSE.

SO HE WAS READY.

HE WAS READY FOR THEM TO COME THROUGH THE DOOR.

Zahn: OVER THE COURSE OF SEVERAL MONTHS,

TOM CONVINCED MIKE MILLER THAT THE CRIME WOULD BE EASY MONEY.

POLICE THEORIZED THAT MILLER WAS TOLD

HE COULD KEEP THE STOLEN JEWELRY

AND HAVE A SHARE OF THE LIFE INSURANCE MONEY.

BUT RANDOLPH KNEW THAT MILLER WOULDN'T LEAVE THE HOUSE ALIVE.

HOW DO YOU THINK RANDOLPH WAS ABLE TO

MANIPULATE MILLER TO THE EXTENT THAT HE DID?

I THINK RANDOLPH IS VERY PATIENT.

THEY WENT GAMBLING TOGETHER.

THEY WENT TO THE GUN RANGE TOGETHER.

HE TOOK ENOUGH TIME TO COURT HIM, TO BRING HIM TO THAT POINT

WHERE HE SAW SHARON AS THIS EVIL WOMAN

WHO BROUGHT MISERY AND DISCOMFORT.

HE GOT MILLER TO WHERE HE WOULD BE WILLING,

FOR MONEY, TO PULL THE TRIGGER ON SHARON.

Zahn: AND RANDOLPH NEVER GAVE HIS WIFE THE SLIGHTEST HINT

OF WHAT WAS IN STORE FOR HER.

O'Kelley: HE GOT A THRILL FROM THAT PLANNING.

HE'S VERY MANIPULATIVE AS A PERSON, PERIOD.

[ GUNSHOT ]

Zahn: PROSECUTORS SHOWED JURORS VIDEOTAPE OF THE COUPLE

HOLDING HANDS AS THEY LEFT THE RESTAURANT THAT NIGHT.

TOM RANDOLPH'S IN HAVING DINNER WITH A WOMAN

THAT HE KNEW WAS GOING TO BE DEAD WITHIN THE HOUR.

THAT'S AN AMAZING THING TO ME,

THAT HE'S DRIVING TO GET TO THE HOUSE.

HE KNOWS AS SOON AS SHE LEAVES THIS CAR

AND WALKS INTO THE HOUSE THAT SHE'S DEAD.

Zahn: THE PROSECUTION'S CASE WAS POWERFUL.

AFTER NINE HOURS OF DELIBERATION,

A JURY FOUND TOM RANDOLPH GUILTY OF THE MURDER OF HIS WIFE SHARON

AND HIS ACCOMPLICE MIKE MILLER.

IT WAS A VICTORY FOR THOSE CLOSEST TO SHARON

AND THE DETECTIVE WHO HAD SEEN THROUGH ALL OF HIS LIES.

HOW IMPORTANT WAS IT FOR YOU

TO SEE RANDOLPH FACE JUSTICE?

IT WAS EXTRAORDINARILY IMPORTANT.

AS A DETECTIVE, THE JOB IS TO FIND THE TRUTH

PRIMARILY BECAUSE WE COULD GET AN ANSWER FOR SHARON'S FAMILY,

WE COULD GET AN ANSWER EVEN FOR MIKE MILLER'S FAMILY.

Zahn: IN JULY OF 2017,

TOM RANDOLPH WAS SENTENCED TO DEATH.

A PUNISHMENT THAT BROUGHT AN END TO A TERRIFYING SAGA

THAT HAD SHATTERED SO MANY FAMILIES.

FRANCIS AND BECKY RANDOLPH,

THEY WEREN'T EVER GONNA SEE JUSTICE.

I REMEMBER SITTING IN THE LIVING ROOM

OF FRANCIS' SISTER'S HOUSE, AND I TOLD HER JUST THAT.

I'M SORRY, THERE'S NO WAY THAT WE'RE GOING TO BE ABLE

TO PROVE WHAT HE DID TO FRANCIS.

AND I'LL NEVER FORGET. SHE LOOKED AT ME, AND SHE SAID,

"THAT'S OKAY, YOU CAN ONLY KILL A DOG ONCE."

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE TOM RANDOLPH?

TOM RANDOLPH IS A MALIGNANT NARCISSIST.

I THINK HE'S INCAPABLE OF LOVING ANOTHER HUMAN BEING.

VERY CALLOUS.

JUST A HORRIBLE, EVIL HUMAN BEING.

BOOM, BOOM, BOOM!

Zahn: FOR SHARON'S LOVED ONES, PERHAPS THE MOST PAINFUL PART

OF RANDOLPH'S CRIMES WAS HOW HE HAD USED

HER MOST SPECIAL TRAIT -- HER KINDNESS -- AGAINST HER.

IT'S SO OBVIOUS IN HEARING YOU TALK ABOUT SHARON

THAT YOU WERE A VERY DEVOTED FRIEND.

WHAT DO YOU MISS MOST ABOUT SHARON?

I LOVED SHARON. I LOVED WHO SHE WAS.

AND I LOVED BEING AROUND HER.

SHE WAS A LOVING PERSON.

AND ALL SHE WANTED IN RETURN WAS LOVE.

SHE DID LOVE TO HAVE FUN.

SHE JUST CHOSE THE WRONG PERSON TO HAVE IT WITH IN THE END.

FOLLOWING TOM RANDOLPH'S CONVICTION,

SHARON'S DAUGHTER COLLEEN GAVE A POWERFUL STATEMENT

ABOUT HER LONG WAIT FOR JUSTICE.

IN IT, SHE SAID, QUOTE,

"IT'S BEEN WAY TOO LONG, AND IT'S HURT EVERY DAY.

I FEEL THAT'S REALLY WHAT HE DESERVES.

HE'S ONE EVIL, EVIL MONSTER."

I'M PAULA ZAHN.
