Today we will make chana dal.
Let’s see what all ingredients are required for making chana dal.
Chana dal - 1 cup Soaked for 5-6 hours
Paste - 3 tomatoes, 1 inch ginger piece and 1 green chilly
Green chilly - 2-3 tbsp (finely chopped)
Ghee - 1-2 tbsp
Coriander powder - 1 tsp
Cumin seeds - ½ tsp Asafoetida - 1 pinch
Turmeric powder - ½ tsp
Red chilly powder - ¼ tsp
Garam masala - ¼ tsp
Salt - as per taste or 1 tsp
Add dal in cooker for boiling.
Add half the amount of dal and turmeric powder and rest while making masala.
Add 2 cup water in dal.
Close the cooker and turn on the gas.
Cook dal for 3-4 more minutes more after it simmers once.
It takes time in cooking chana dal.
Reduce the flame and cook for 5 minutes.
Turn off the gas.
Meanwhile prepare masala for dal.
Add 1 tsp ghee in preheated pan.
If you wish to add onions then fry dal in oil.
When ghee gets hot
add cumin seeds and asafoetida.
After sautéing cumin seeds add turmeric powder
tomato-green chilly-ginger paste
and red chilly powder.
Cook masala until oil starts separating from the masala.
Keep stirring masala after regular intervals.
Masala is ready; now add dal into it.
Add salt and water as per your preference.
Cover and cook for 2-3 minutes so that all spices get absorbed in the dal.
Check the dal.
Now add garam masala and green coriander in the dal.
Chana dal is ready.
We have used 1 cup chana dal for making this dal.
This much quantity of chana dal can be served to 4-5 family members.
Serve chana dal with chapatti, parantha or rice.
