Hi guys I'm Ellis
and I'm back with another FM21 Tutorial!
So, let's get right into it!
On day one of your Football Manager save,
you need to cover the first step, creating your manager.
I'm going to massively shock you here, but
there's more to setting up your manager profile
than just worrying about what hairstyle you're going to rock!
Obviously that is massively important but it's not quite as important
as how you build your in-game personality and skill set.
Before you embark on your journey into football management,
you need to decide what sort of manager you're going to be.
Every manager in the world has their own management style and
this is exactly the same in FM21.
For example, my management style is ... bad.
Once you've perfected the look of your manager,
you have the opportunity to craft your own style.
You'll do this by setting the all-important attributes
that define you as a manager.
These attributes are split into two categories:
Coaching and Mental.
Coaching attributes are most important on the training pitch.
They determine how well you coach certain aspects of football,
such as your attacking, defending and technical aspects.
On the other hand, your mental attributes are focused off the training pitch.
These can affect things like: how likely a player is to bring minor concerns to you
and your ability to get your own way with the board.
For example, a less-determined manager is more likely to get requests turned down.
Also, your ability to motivate players as a group in both team talks and meetings.
You'll have a certain amount of attributes points to dish out when building your manager.
The exact number is determined by two things:
Your past playing experience and your coaching badges.
The higher your playing experience and the better your badges are,
the more points you'll be allocated to assign when building your profile.
So, if you have great past playing experience and great coaching badges,
then you'll have all the points in the world to allocate.
If you're new to FM, we're going to recommend that you
create yourself an elite-level manager
just to allow yourself to hit the ground running
when starting your first save.
You may be sat there thinking, but Ellis, what if I get really good at the game?
Well, you can of course adapt this when you start a new save.
You can create a brand-new manager in line with your new experience.
If you want to match your abilities with the expectations of your club,
the game can do this for you.
It's got handy tick-boxes that auto-adjust your badges and your experience
in line with the club's reputation.
Now then, when it comes to spending your allocated points
and building your attributes, there are a few things to consider.
For example, you could be managing a top-flight club such as Leicester City,
with state of the art facilities and an elite level backroom team.
If this is the case, you're probably going to want to
put your attributes more into the mental side
because you're not going to need to be on the training pitch as much
due to you having staff that already cover this.
On the other hand, you may take the reins at a cash-strapped
You may not have the finances to give you a full coaching team
at your disposal.
In that instance, it'd probably be wise
to put more of your attributes towards the coaching side
to allow you to really take the lead at the training ground.
The exact same thought process can be used when
thinking about the youngster knowledge and player knowledge attributes.
For example, if you're managing a club with a really high reputation
and an extensive scouting network,
then you don't need to worry about these as much.
You can chill.
If you don't want to spend your time worrying about where
each and every manager point should be allocated,
then you can use the management style focus dropdown.
FM21 gives you six management styles to choose from.
This gives you the opportunity to simply select the style that suits you best.
And that's it, simply click to confirm
and you're ready to embark on the world of management.
This has been about setting up your manager
for the right environment and we're only scratching the surface.
The next steps will be learning the key areas of FM21 -
the areas that will help you on the path to glory.
