in this video I would like to teach you

how to apologize in English

we will also review some grammar rules

related to using these expressions

correctly and finally as usual I will

teach you how to say these expressions

with the good clear American accent

[Music]

let's start with an easy one that I'm

sure you already know I'm sorry I'm

sorry did you hear how I pronounce the

letter O I didn't say sorry I said sorry

I'm sorry in American English that O is

open I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm very sorry

you can also say I'm so sorry

or I'm truly sorry let's say those three

again I'm very sorry I'm so sorry I'm

truly sorry and sometimes you need to

say what you're sorry for what you did

wrong let me teach you two different

ways to do that so after we say I'm

sorry we're going to continue and say

I'm sorry I and then we use the past

tense of what you did

for example I'm sorry I said that I'm

sorry I came late I'm sorry I hurt your

feelings

those verbs are in the past tense and

remember hurt may look like it's in the

present tense but the past tense of hurt

is also hurt so we say I'm sorry I plus

the past tense but we often also say I'm

sorry for in that case we do it

differently after the for you need the

verb plus ing the verb in present tense

plus ing so now we can say either I'm

sorry I said that or I'm sorry for

saying that I'm sorry I came late or I'm

sorry for coming late I'm sorry I hurt

your feelings I'm sorry for hurting your

feelings

let's practice those three

I'm sorry for saying that let's dress

sorry and saying I'm sorry for saying

that

I'm sorry for coming late I'm sorry for

coming late I'm sorry for hurting your

feelings did you hear the way I

pronounced hurting

I didn't say hurting I changed that tea

into a fast D or maybe to you it sounds

like an R in your language first we're

gonna do the American are her and then

that T is gonna have the difficult sound

that some people say is an R some people

say it's a fast D depending on how you

hear it depending on what your native

language is hurting hurting hurting I'm

sorry for hurting your feelings

and we often pronounce the T this way

when we have an R plus a T plus a vowel

that's a hard one for example party or

started or the name Carter we don't say

Carter a recent Carter let's practice

one more example with saying sorry in

the two different ways I'm sorry that I

forgot your birthday I'm sorry that I

forgot your birthday and what's the

other way if we say for you want to try

it I'm sorry for forgetting your

birthday did you do that one correctly

let's say that again

I'm sorry for forgetting your birthday

another way to say sorry is to use the

word apologize or apology let's first

learn how to pronounce them correctly to

apologize is a verb

make sure you stress the second syllable

apologize and make sure that o is an AH

apologize apologize and the noun is

apology we stress the same syllable the

second syllable apology of course you

can say I apologize

repeat after me I apologize another very

nice and polite way to apologize is to

say I sincerely apologize I sincerely

apologize let's say that again I

sincerely apologize and if you want to

say what you apologize for you can make

the sentence the same way grammatically

as when we practiced sorry I apologize

that I said that I apologize that I said

that or you can say I apologize for what

I apologize for saying that right for

plus ing I apologize that I hurt your

feelings

and with apologize it's more common to

say for plus ing I apologize for hurting

your feelings I apologize for saying

that

I apologize for forgetting your birthday

and that's a little more common than

saying I apologize that I forgot your

birthday people generally tend to say it

with ing I apologize for forgetting your

birthday and now let's practice using

the noun apology you can simply say my

apologies or my sincerest apologies

please accept my sincerest apologies

please accept my sincerest apologies for

and then you can finish the sentence

when you apologize to someone sometimes

it's important to also say please

forgive me it won't happen again please

forgive me it won't happen again and if

you forgot to do something important and

the other person is upset with you you

can say I'm sorry it completely slipped

my mind it completely slipped my mind

it means I completely forgot I'm sorry

and often in an apology it's important

to admit your fault

you can say I was wrong let's pronounce

wrong open your mouth for the Oh wrong

and the ng at the end don't pronounce it

too strongly

don't say wrong just wrong wrong just a

little bit I was wrong and if you want

to say why you were wrong you can say I

was wrong too plus a verb I was wrong to

speak to you that way

I was wrong to speak too

that way and another very common

expression a very good expression is to

say it was wrong of me - it was wrong of

me - it was wrong of me to say that it

was wrong of me to do that

it was wrong of me to blame you and

often it's a good idea to say I

shouldn't have done something let's

practice that shouldn't have shouldn't

have shouldn't have and if we're gonna

say that more casually we can say

shouldn't of shouldn't of shouldn't of

so either shouldn't have shouldn't have

or shouldn't of shouldn't of that's

difficult to say repeat after me I

shouldn't have said that I shouldn't

have said that

I shouldn't have spoken to you that way

or I should have should've should've I

should have been more careful I should

have known better I should have been

more careful I should have known better

from time to time we all need to

apologize right so practice using these

expressions so that you will be ready to

apologize in English thanks for watching
