Difficulty: 0

I'm going to show you how to diagram a

nominal clause when it's functioning as

the object of a preposition so we'll

need a sentence in which a nominal

Clause does that function as the object

of a preposition so how about you should

give a bouquet of poppies to whomever I

name next you should give a bouquet of

poppies to whomever I name next okay so

we need first of all a baseline draw

pretty high okay you should give so you

as the subject should give and give what

bouquet

bouquet of poppies so prepositional

phrase right of poppies and it's a

bouquet so a bouquet of poppies now we

have our prepositional phrase so you can

give a bouquet of poppies to whomever I

name next so this is to whomever I name

my name next that's our prepositional

phrase and big line down like that just

to put this little too

that's our preposition well what is the

object of two of two to remember I named

next and whomever I named next is our

subordinate clause it's our nominal

Clause and that needs to go on a

pedestal so we have to do it down here

so make pedestal

now whomever I name next now the the

verb is name well who's doing that

naming it's I so I name and who is being

named I named what what's the direct

object well that's far

whoever or not whoever it's not whoever

I'm a next its whomever I named next and

next

that's an adverb Thanks

when is this I mean going on next

how is it going on next okay so that's

that's it you should give a bouquet of

poppies to whomever I named next and

notice that in these in these clauses

these subordinate clauses here sometimes

the word order really gets quite

distinct from the word order that you

use when speaking pick thing when you

gotta whoever so so there it is so

there's our pedestal and there's our

nominal Clause functioning as the object

of a preposition
