Aani, bienvenue, and welcome
Thunderbirds to the Algoma University
family. It is absolutely wonderful to see
all the new and returning students on
our different campuses.
Over the past several months we've listened
to our students and our stakeholders
and we have many new exciting
initiatives to share with you as we
embark on this new school year. Let's
take a closer look.
Big things happening right across campus.
We have heard you Thunderbirds
and as a result we are increasing and
enhancing student spaces on campus in
partnership with the Anishinaabe People's
Council we're renovating upstairs to
create a new SASA Lounge and
behind me we are creating a new
International Student's Lounge. If you need
help with registration, payments, personal
or academic counseling, Student Success
Central is your one-stop shop. And look
for the "Ask Me" buttons that are all
throughout campus and someone can help
guide you to where you need to go.
This past July, we launched the Algoma
University School of Business &
Economics in both Sault Ste. Marie and
Brampton. And thanks to an expanded
partnership with Laurentian University
we are welcoming our first class of
engineering students to the Algoma
campus this fall. Based on your feedback
David and Jillian are focused on
enhancing your student experience here
at Algoma. We have a lot of fun
activities planned for Orientation Week
and we can't wait to see you there. And
we can't wait to have a great year - lots
of events happening, lots of
opportunities for you get involved and
build a great campus experience.
When you have a chance come see the
renovation of Shingwauk Hall, a building of
major historical significance in Canada
and one of the oldest buildings on our
campus. Book a tour through the Shingwauk
Residential Schools Centre with your
friends this year. It is sure to be a
powerful and transformational experience.
The Thunderbird is powerful, strong, and
free. You are powerful, strong, and free.
Welcome to Algoma, Thunderbirds.
Seize this moment. Have a great year and
I look forward to meeting every single
one of you
