Many highly sensitive people may feel they have to choose between loneliness and
suppressing their needs in order to be in a relationship, but living alone can
be a valid choice. "Phantom of the Opera" lyrics include: "Life can be lived,
life can be loved, alone."
For many sensitive people - men and women - reducing social contacts can
be a way to nurture self-development and creativity, and if we choose to be in a
relationship there are special challenges.
