I watch American dramas
I've watched all kinds of them at least once
which gives reason to my "pride" in terms of a-dramas.
That's why today I am filming
Angela's. Netflix. Drama.
The reason I limited it to "netflix" dramas
is cause there's not much source of media other than it
to watch a-dramas easyily/quickly
so I remember watching most of these through illegal websites and stuff
(not sure if i'm allowed to say this and not get shot)
But these days a lot of Koreans watch them through Netflix (as do I)
That's the only reason for the limitation
I swear this isn't sponsored by them
but if they ever wish to propose me a sponsorship
I would love that.
I luv you netflix <3
ANYWAYS let's start.
First drama. da-dum
Of course I should start with my all time fav.
This one's called Gossip Girl.
I'll give you a short summary/review of each one.
Gossip Girl is one of those general high teen dramasss...
but with a twist.
Excluding two characters,
all of the other main charcaters
are NY, top high-class elites,
super super rich students.
Their parent's jobs are mind-blowing
and their bathrooms are basically my house in total.
So the overall humor of this drama
is like..rich people jokes lol
So it's not only fun,
but you get to feel a kind of vicarious satisfaction
"hmm I wish I could live like her for a day.."
like this is what's in your head while you're watching.
But I think the ratings for GG are very polarized.
There's people that say it's too boring
and some that say it's their top fav like me.
If you like typical high-teen dramas, you'll love it.
2nd drama. da-dum.
This one's called Pretty Little Liars.
Let's start with the summary.
There are 5 main characters
These girls start off as high schoolers in season 1.
And they're basically the "mean girls" of their school
Of course like all mean girl cliques, there's a boss.
These 5 girls have a sleepover one day.
She just mysteriously disappears
and a few days later the police state they found her body
so the rest of the girls end up going to her 'funeral'.
Of course they're all in big shock and confused
as to how she got murdered, where she went blahblah
and as the come out of the funeral..!
the cell phones of all 4 girls ring at the same time.
And the same text message that all girls got read this
and the most creepiest part is
the dead boss's name is "Alison".
So the whole drama is based on finding who this A is.
I believe there's up to season 7.
This is REALLY fun and thrilling at first
and like inferring with your friends about who A is.
but when you get to about season 5
it starts to get a bit boring.
and starting season 6-ish
you just watch in despair
thinking "will this drama ever end."
but you can't stop cause A still hasn't appeared.
So starting from season 6 I just kinda watched out of obligation
just to find out who A is.
3rd drama. da-dum.
called Stranger Things.
How this drama starts is
the cutest little boy
suddenly disappears one night. (cry)
So the story starts from there.
The process of finding the boy is season 1
and season 2 is a separate story after finding the boy.
This does have some scary vibes to it
but it's not like ghosts and stuff
If you like the Maze Runner series, I have a feeling you'll like this
I'm the BIGGEST Maze Runner fan (tmi much?)
The storyline's are very different
but the whole vibe of the show is very similar.
It's one of those shows that gets you thinking
"how did the writer EVER think of these ideas?"
yeah. it's amazing. end of story.
4th drama. da-dum.
Now let's go over to something brighter.
This one's called Good Place.
If you translate the good place,
it literally means "a good place".
The good place that this drama refers to is..
from a Christian's point of view, it should be heaven.
So after we die, we can go to a good place or a bad place
and this drama deals with the people that came to the good place
basically, dead people.
If you just hear it like that, it might sound like a horror show.
but no. It's a comedy.
And one episode only airs like 20 minutes
so it's super easy to just watch through the whole season.
And every little line is so odd.
If you thought "wow this writer is so smart." from watching Stranger Things
for Good Place, you think
"wow is this writer on dru..."
It's that odd and funny.
If you like childish jokes like I do, you'll love it.
5th drama. da-dum.
is called The End of the F***ing World
and this exceptionally is a British drama.
omg you haaaaaaave to watch this
There's a girl and guy main character
they're all you have to know
cuz the whole story is created around these two characters.
They both live a very very unhappy life
They're not in good terms with their family.
actually they don't have much family at all.
They don't have any friends at school
they always eat alone...(beginning to think it's the story of my life)
anyways they both live that kinda life
The funny thing is the guy believes himself to be a psychopath.
Back story: he killed an animal when he was little
and at that time he felt NO kind of emotion
no compassion no sadness.
so he branded himself as a psychopath.
and one day he decides to kill this girl.
It's like "I killed an animal once and didn't feel nothing"
"so it won't be much different with the girl right?"
So he plans it all out and everything
"I'm gonna bring this girl home
and take out the knife like right about now..."
(ya know what I mean)
But change of plans. The girl has such a strange personality.
Very self-assertive, very very odd.
So the guy gets taken aback.
And he starts to follow the girl's ways.
They end up stealing a car and run away together
and that's how the story starts.
But the whole mood is very dark
and there's a lot of negative scenes and lines
I mean the english version of the title IS The End of the F***ing World.
Literally screams negativity.
BUT there's a speck of romance throughout the whole story.
THAT'S the point we should focus on.
It's hard to say it's a romantic comedy
cuz you shouldn't expect any sweet, lovely scenes that make your heart flutter
cuz there aren't any.
But there definitely is a subtle vibe of romance
and the sense of sweet innocent love (ew)
that was the fun of this drama.
Also, when you first watch this drama
you might think "how is this guy a main character?"
cause he's like not too tall..has a relatively meager looking body..
(Angela look in the mirror)
but as you watch the drama, you just get more and more attracted to him
so I ended up falling in love with this actor after I finished the drama
and searched for other dramas he made an appearance in.
..which is Black Mirror.
I believe this also isn't a a-drama. (yup it was a british one)
This drama in general is not on my recommendation list though.
Black Mirror's episodes aren't one connected story.
Instead, there's a completely different story for each episode.
I feel like it's a very...critical and serious drama
that makes you think a lot and learn a lesson
like it wants to send a certain message
I watched about 5 of their episodes
and it was way too dark and serious for my taste
I personally like dramas that I can just watch without having to "think" anything
so Black Mirror wasn't exactly my cup of tea.
But I just had to watch one more episode
just for the sake of seeing this actor's face more.
It's the first episoe of season 3.
For this I won't separately summarize
but for those of you who watched this episode,
you'll know why I covered the webcam of all the laptops and computers in my house.
You're literally not human if you don't do that after watching this episode.
There's a few more dramas I want to talk about
but this video's getting too long, so I'll introduce just one more.
Of course I saved the best for last.
This is actually very popular in Korea
I believe it's what most people begin a-dramas with.
The oh-so-famous RM from BTS also mentioned he studied english through Friends
(that's actually what caught my attention to watch Friends myself)
It's an insult to shut Friends into a category of "drama".
It's beyond that.
It's an own distinct noun itself.
It's an art.
All jokes aside, it's definitely a classic.
This one's a sitcom
which goes up to season 10
and each season consists of more than 20 episodes
so it's a bit difficult to just whip through in one seating.
I'm actually still on the end of season 7.
I have never watched a drama that has a similar taste of humor code as me
out of a-dramas, k-dramas in total.
I think I have a very western sense of humor
and one very popular kind of it is "sarcasm"
which in Korean kinda means "critical" and "ironical".
There's a lot of sarcastic jokes in Friends
and also very sexual jokes.
Funny thing is, little back story:
I lived in America while I was 4~10 years old.
and our TV at that time didn't have cable so we couldn't watch many channels
but out of the few that was available, Friends would air every single night.
But as a tiny little elementary schooler,
I had no frikin idea what was funny.
Obviously cause I couldn't understand the jokes
and you know how sitcoms always insert laughing sounds of the audience?
I just never understood those laughing points
so I'd always turn the channel to Spongebob and stuff and laugh my head off.
But after growing up a little and watching it back,
I CAN FINALLY UNDERSTAND.
It's so funny now that I can understand the jokes
and I think it's a nice drama to learn english with.
cuz there's a lot of 'daily' expressions that American's use.
Anyways it's such an amazing drama. please. watch.
So that was the end of my Netflix recommendations.
Thanks so much for watching
and I'll see you guys later in my future video BYEE
