hello again in this video we are going

to talk about sentence stress and more

specifically about shifting stress now

in the 12-week program you learned about

shifting stress and how you can change

the meaning of a sentence simply by

changing the stressed word in that

sentence now we know about sentence

stress that when we stress a word that

indicates that that's the most important

word in this sentence that's where your

listener really needs to pay attention

okay so in the 12-week program I gave

some specific examples one of those is

when you ask you know you can ask a

question and give a response and

depending on which word you stress that

can answer different questions so for

example who is going to the party she is

going to the party tonight are you go

are you sure she is going she is going

to the party tonight okay some another

example where is she going tonight she's

going to the party tonight okay that

that idea of whatever I stress is

answering that question when is she

going she's going to the party tonight

so let's get a little bit more practice

with this so I want to do a little bit

of a quiz here and first we're gonna the

first half of the quiz is is addressing

more of that direct meaning of when I

stress this word this is what the

question that it's answering or what

it's you know the message that it's

giving and then we're gonna get into

implied meaning kind of what are they

implying or what do they what is their

real purpose in the way that they're

saying that and this is done through

stress this shifting stress and can be a

little bit tricky but that's why we're

practicing it today and I have a lot

more examples in your worksheet of this

implied meaning so let's get started so

I want you to be actively engaged in

this and be answering the question so

which which word do I need to stress to

answer that question when is the wedding

so hopefully said the wedding is on

Saturday

okay so Saturday is the information that

is most important to this question so

that's what's being stressed here are

you sure the wedding is Saturday the

wedding is on Saturday okay so we're

gonna stress is yeah it is on Saturday

that's how I would say it to stress that

word to emphasize that that that really

is the day when will you look at it what

would you do I'll look at it tonight

okay tonight when tonight who's going to

look at it I'll take a look at it

tonight I'll take a look at it tonight

okay so we're stressing that word that

answers the question who is going to

wear that sweater she's going to wear

that sweater she is going to be stressed
