HI, HOW ARE YOU?

HOW ARE YOU DOING?

ARE YOU GOOD?

I'M ENJOYING THIS ALREADY.

THIS IS A NICE SOIREE.

I FEEL LIKE IF I WAS AT A PARTY, THIS IS A GANG I WOULD BE WANT

TO BE A PART OF.

NOW, THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE.

JAMIE, YOU ARE -- YOU ARE AS WE ALL ARE A HUGE FAN OF FLORENCE

AND HOW MAGNIFICENT MACHINE.

HAVE YOU EVER SEEN THEM LIVE?

>> YES, I HAVE.

I WAS YOUR FIRST-EVER HEADLINE OF A FEST IN 2010.

FLORENCE WAS UNBELIEVABLE.

THEN WE ALL WENT TO THIS -- THEY HAVE THIS TENT THERE CALLED THE

GUILTY PLEASURE TENT.

>> James: AH, YES.

YES.

>> WHERE YOU GO AND GET YOUR DANCE ON TO STUFF THAT ISN'T

MAYBE DEEMED THAT COOL.

>> James: YES!

>> IT WAS ALL GOING WELL.

EVERYONE WAS SORT OF ENEBRIATED AND HAVING FUN.

THEN SUDDENLY EVERYONE'S ATTENTION TURNED TO THE STAGE

BECAUSE FLORENCE HAD DONE HER HEADLINE ACT AND THEN COME INTO

THE GUILTY PLEASURES -- >> I DON'T THINK I WAS INVITED.

I JUST SHOWED UP.

>> WHAT HAPPENED IS YOU SANG -- >> DID I SING?

>> YOU SANG ALONG TO, UM, "YOU GOT THE LOVE."

BUT THEN WHAT HAPPENED IS EVERYONE --

[APPLAUSE] -- IT WAS REALLY AMAZING.

AFTER WHAT HAPPENED IS WE WERE ALL DANCING.

EVERYONE STOPPED DANCING AND JUST WATCHED YOU.

>> AS IF THE HEADLINE SHOW WASN'T ENOUGH FOR ME.

ODDLY ENOUGH, I DON'T REMEMBER ANY OF THIS.

>> James: YOU DON'T REMEMBER GOING TO THE GUILTY PLEASURES

TENT?

>> NO.

>> WAS I IN AN ANIMAL COSTUME?

>> POTENTIALLY.

>> I THINK I MAY HAVE BEEN DRESSED AS A LION.

>> YES, YOU WERE!

>> YEAH!

>> James: HA-HA.

THIS FEELS LIKE WE'RE TRYING TO PIECE TOGETHER A CRIME SCENE.

HANG ON!

WAS ANYONE DRESSED AS A -- YES!

THAT RINGS A BELL!

NOW, FLORENCE, WE'RE ALL SUCH HUGE FANS.

YOU HAVE THE MOST BRILLIANT AND HAUNTING AND INCREDIBLE VOICE.

I'M INTERESTED, HAS YOUR VOICE ALWAYS SOUNDED LIKE THAT OR DID

YOU -- HAVE YOU HAD LIKE FORMAL POWER AND RANGE TRAINING?

>> UM, WELL, I DID GET SINGING LESSONS AND, UM, WHEN I WAS

ABOUT 11 BUT SHE WAS REALLY INTERESTED IN ME BECOMING A

CLASSICAL SINGER BECAUSE I COULD HAVE BEEN A SOPRANO.

SO I WANTED TO SING JAZZ AND ALL SORTS OF STUFF, BUT SHE KIND OF

-- WE WERE WORKING ON THE OPERA STUFF.

SHE DID SAY, OK, IF YOU'RE GOING TO BE A PROFESSIONAL SINGER,

IT'S GOING TO BE NO SMOKING, NO GOING OUT LATE, NO TALKING

LOUDLY, NO DRINK, NO DRUGS.

AND I WAS LIKE, OK, SEE YA!

>> James: HA-HA!

[APPLAUSE] YOU USED TO BE A BIT OF A SINGER

YOURSELF.

YOU WERE IN A BAND, RIGHT?

YOU WERE IN A BAND?

BUT YOU WERE IN A PROPER BAND, WEREN'T YOU?

>> A WEE BIT, YEAH.

WE HAD SOME NICE MOMENTS, BUT WE WEREN'T GREAT.

>> James: WHAT WERE YOU CALLED >> WE WERE CALLED SONS OF JIM.

>> James: IT WAS JUST TWO OF YOU IN THE BAND, RIGHT?

>> AND BOTH OUR DADS WERE CALLED JIM.

>> James: BOTH YOUR DADS WERE CALLED JIM.

THAT SUMS IT UP.

>> THAT'S THE END OF THAT.

>> James: I CAN IMAGINE YOU ON STAGE.

SORT OF MOODY OR WERE YOU -- WHAT WAS YOUR PERSONA?

>> IF I'M EITHER OF THOSE TWO, I WAS THE FORMER.

I HID BEHIND A TERRIBLE HARMONICA.

>> James: FLORENCE, YOU DID LOTS OF YOUR EARLY GIGS -- YOU

CAME UP AROUND THE TIME WHERE YOU WOULD DO GIGS QUITE NEAR MY

FIRST HOUSE IN LONDON NEAR THE LOCKE TAVERN IN CAMDEN.

WHAT DO YOU REMEMBER ABOUT THAT?

SONS OF JIM PLAYED THE LOCKE TAVERN?

NO WAY!

>> YEAH.

>> James: WOW!

>> COME ON NOW.

>> James: WHAT DID YOU REMEMBER AT THAT TIME?

A WHOLE SET OF INCREDIBLE ARTIST S CAME AROUND THAT SAME

TIME IN THAT SAME AREA?

>> THERE WAS LOADS OF GIGS GOING ON AND ALWAYS KIND OF CLUB

NIGHTS.

COULD YOU BASICALLY PLAY EVERY NIGHT.

THERE WAS ALWAYS SOMETHING HAPPENING.

I DID ONE GIG ON A SUNDAY NIGHT AT THE LOCKE TAVERN.

IT WAS A REALLY SMALL GIG, AND, YOU KNOW, JUST LIKE A ROOM AT

THE TOP OF A PUB.

THAT WAS THE FIRST TIME I EVER HEARD ADELE.

I THINK I WAS ON FIRST.

MY SET KIND OF INVOLVED BEING VERY DRUNK AND SHOUTING AND THEN

WHEN THAT WAS DONE, I REMEMBER BEING AT THE BAR AND LITERALLY

THE VOICE OF AN ANGEL KIND OF FROM THE BACK -- NEVER HEARD

ANYTHING LIKE IT IN MY LIFE.

HER VOICE IS SO INCREDIBLE.

I'LL ALWAYS REMEMBER THE FIRST TIME I HEARD IT.

>> ADELE?

>> James: SORRY, WE WERE ALL -- WE WERE TALKING ABOUT SONS OF

JIM.

GOD, THAT MOODY HARMONICA PLAYER, HE WAS SOMETHING ELSE!
