- Oh hey, Delish.
Do you wanna come see my kitchen?
Well, let's go.
Welcome to my kitchen.
I have lived in this place for about three years,
but the majority of that time,
I've been out of town shooting.
So, I'm just now starting to settle in
and really make this place home.
Let's go on a little tour, shall we?
First of all, I have to show you this.
My grandmother's a watercolor artist,
and this is one of my favorite pieces of hers.
Another little geranium that's bright and happy
and sits on my wall (giggles).
My favorite part of the kitchen is this island.
It's such a great space.
I eat breakfast here.
I'll also do work here sometimes
'cause it a nice flat space.
But also it's great if you're cooking or baking
and prepping something.
You can really lay everything out and see it all
and put it together and get your hands dirty
and get some real work done.
Also for me, growing up,
all of my favorite conversations
and some of my most precious memories happened
around a kitchen island of sorts.
And it tends to be the space where people gather,
so it always holds a special place in my heart.
I actually did make a few changes recently.
When I had these floors put in,
I asked them if they would also add
this subway tile backsplash
because it's always been a Pinterest dream
of mine to have a subway tile backsplash in my kitchen.
But if I were to make any other changes,
I would add a little breakfast nook.
I sort of have this table situation here.
Please excuse the gym equipment. (laughs)
I have this small table here and things,
but I would love to make it more
of a traditional breakfast nook
with a little bench and a table
and sort of a, more of cafe situation.
I tend to use either,
very large or very small implements
in the kitchen.
I'm not sure why, but I do have little spoons
and little knives and other little things.
These were given to me by my grandfather
because I can reach very tall things.
And I'm very short.
So, there we go.
Continuing the tour, I love coffee.
I drink a lot of coffee.
I have coffee mugs.
Someone brought me this mug
from at a convention, and I love it.
It says hands off my coffee, mundane.
Guys, I'm not a mundane.
And speaking of Shadowhunters,
the one item in my kitchen that I never use, rarely use,
but can't bear to get rid of
is also because of Shadowhunters.
- Am I, am I a vampire?
So, during season one of the show,
the boys had this recurring theme of ambushing each other
and myself with Nerf guns.
- [Man] Get up, get up, get up, get up.
- No, no. - (laughs) He got you.
He's got her as a hostage.
- So, being the little sister that I am to all of them,
I had to be prepared.
Nerf guns. (popping)
I'll find this later.
Also, I am a good Girl Scout,
and in my kitchen, I have a junk drawer full
of batteries, tools, Command hooks, anything you might need.
You never know.
Oh, I forgot this was in here.
This is a children's geography globe.
You might think it's just for kids,
but it comes in really handy at parties.
It's a great adult game too.
I mean, do you know the national anthem of Ouagadougou?
I didn't, but I do now.
When I was 17 for my university graduation,
my grandmother got me this KitchenAid stand mixer,
which has since become one of my prized possessions
and especially comes in handy during the holidays
when I become a little bit of a Keebler elf
and turn this kitchen into a cooking factory.
So that brings us to the next part of our tour,
which is the wonderful world of my baking supplies.
First of all, safety first.
You have to bear with me with these.
Aren't they paws-itively adorable?
I told you I loved a good pun.
I'm not sorry.
This is part one of my baking cabinet.
I have most of my cookbooks up there,
but a few of my favorites that I use most often down here.
A lot of what I bake are my recipes
that have been passed down through my family.
So, my grandmother taught me how to bake
when I was a little girl,
which is why baking is so special to me.
It's almost therapeutic
because it reminds me of home and my family,
and a lot of these recipes are my great-grandmother's
that were then passed down to me.
So, I have photocopies of
all of the old handwritten recipes
that my grandma has the originals of at her house.
But I just had to bring them here with me.
But I have other baking supplies over here.
I have different kinds of flour and some honey
and a myriad of other ingredients.
I would say that this is the corner of things
that I use most often in my kitchen.
This coffeemaker, the lovely Isaiah Mustafa
from Shadowhunters gave that to me for my 21st birthday.
And I love him for it,
but also I can't stop drinking these Nespresso coffees.
It's so convenient 'cause you can just pop in a pod and go,
and their coffee is incredible.
Oh look, Nerf dart.
Now let's play a little game
of what's in Kat's liquor cabinet.
First of all, I have my wine collaboration
with Stephen Amell's Nocking Point Wine Club.
It's called Of Queens and Angels.
It's a lovely little Syrah Malbec wine.
Let's see what's in here.
clearly I like Scotch
because I have Scotch, Scotch, and Scotch,
some tequila that I used at one point
to make margarita bars, which were quite lovely.
They're sort of like lemon bars,
but think tequila and lime instead.
(clicks teeth) Pretty fun.
And some ginger red spiced rum that I use to make rum balls.
And that's pretty much the extent of it.
Clearly most of my alcohol I use in my baking,
which kind of makes me a grandma, but why not?
Three things I always have on hand in my pantry
other than apples and Scotch,
clearly, which we also talked about,
oh, this tea.
This is my favorite tea.
It's a licorice spice tea,
and I absolutely love it because it's sweet,
and it has a little bit of spice to it.
Also, I always, always have butterscotch chips on hand.
If I ever have to bake something at the last minute,
oatmeal butterscotch cookies are so simple to whip up.
And they're also my favorite.
This is part three of my baking.
Birthday candles, always essential to have on hand.
Last time I went home for Christmas,
I brought back all of my cookie cutters
from when I was a little girl.
For the first cookies I ever made,
I used these cookie cutters for.
So, now I have them here, and I can still use them.
One of the things I use most in the kitchen,
silicone air-popped popcorn bowl.
And it's amazing 'cause you can put the kernels
of popcorn in the bottom of this,
and you have fresh-made air popped popcorn
that then you can dress yourself.
I usually put a little cinnamon on mine.
So you saw my workout corner earlier.
Another thing I always have in my kitchen are,
not sure why they're in my kitchen,
but I think it's because it's the biggest open space
in my house, are these Kali sticks.
When I was training for Shadowhunters,
I had to do a lot of sword work with two swords.
And they base a lot of it on the principles of Kali,
which is these.
But it's a lot of fun to teach people a little bit of that.
Also you never know when you're gonna need
to reach something, and these often come in handy.
Also, I love scented candles.
Clearly I have a whole cabinet of them.
It's very funny 'cause if I'm out shopping, running errands,
and there's a candle, I will go check it out.
And if I fall in love with it, which I often do,
it usually ends up here.
But also my friends know that I love candles,
so they'll find interesting ones and send them way as well.
Anyway, this one has become probably my favorite as of late.
It is a mint leaf and cardamom candle.
And I often have the dilemma
of deciding between a fresh-smelling candle
or a sweet-smelling candle,
and this one has a little bit of both.
Onto the next.
My refrigerator broke about a year ago,
and I had to replace it, and they were,
this refrigerator was one of the floor models,
and it was on sale.
And I just happened to get my dream fridge.
And I was so excited to buy one.
Anyway, what are three things that are always in my fridge?
Clearly there's a recurring theme here.
Also, apple cider vinegar,
which I find so refreshing to add
to different salad dressings or to use in cooking.
But also I add it to my drink in the morning
when I'm on my way to the gym 'cause it wakes me up.
Halo Top ice cream.
I prefer birthday cake because it's also festive.
Delish, this has been absolutely divine.
Thank you so much for joining me today for my kitchen tour.
Come on over again, and next time,
we'll bake some oatmeal butterscotch cookies.
Have a lovely rest of your day.
Be well and don't forget to subscribe
