- [Reporter] Here today's top story is the first look
at Sarah Paulson in the new Netflix drama "Ratched" is here.
The prequel to "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest"
stars Paulson as nurse Mildred Ratched,
the character played Louise Fletcher
in the 1975 movie based on the book.
It's said to premier September 18th on Netflix,
three years after the streamer picked it up
with a two-season order.
The show comes from executive producer Ryan Murphy,
with whom Paulson has also worked on "American Horror Story"
and "American Crime Story" at FX.
The cast of Ratched also includes Cynthia Nixon,
Judy Davis, Sharon Stone, Sophie Okonedo,
and Jon Jon Briones, among others.
AMC Theaters has struck a historic agreement
with Universal Pictures that will allow the studio's movies
to be made available on premium video-on-demand
after just 17 days of playing in cinemas,
including three weekends.
The deal, which presently only covers AMC's US locations,
shatters the traditional theatrical window,
a longstanding policy that has required studios
to play their films on the big screen
for nearly three months before making films
available in the home.
AMC, the country and world's largest theater chain
is expected to share in the revenue from PVOD,
with sources suggesting AMC may receive 10% of each rental.
The debt-laden company has been hit particularly hard
during the coronavirus pandemic.
And Jordan Peele and Issa Rae are teaming up for a new
supernatural feature for Universal, with Rae potentially
set to star.
THR's Neja Joy has more.
- [Neja] The duo will partner to produce an adaptation
of short story "Sinkhole" about a young family
who moves into their dream home,
except for the gaping sinkhole in the backyard.
As the story goes, the sinkhole manages to take
all things that are broken and destroyed,
and make them perfect again.
But what if that thing is a person?
The announcement offers a message that the project
is a "Genre piece that engages on the question
"of female perfection and identity".
