Willemijn, what a surprise to see you here!
You think so?
I really didn't want to miss this. Bart is in the orchestra, so I really wanted to be here tonight.
An opening night like this, so special with Billy so I'm very happy to be able to be here tonight.
So you stepped on the plane in London early this morning...?
I flew in this morning and tomorrow morning I'll be flying back, so it's a short visit but it's worth it!
And what did you feel when you saw her?
It was a bit of a surprise, but I was happily surprised. Great to have her here.
She's been away for a few weeks now, so... Yeah, very happy.
What's it like to be away from home again?
You know, on the one hand it's nice to work on a new musical and to face a new challenge
but on the other hand we have to miss eachother, so we're Skying a lot.
And sometimes it's like "I don't want to do this anymore!" but it's going to be okay.
And you have to work in a little while!
Yeah, I'm working later. Yeah... I'm staring to sweat a little, I think...
Really exciting. But we're well prepared, we've had a long period of rehearsals.
And those kids... I'm having so much respect for them, they worked so hard... I can't say it any other way.
I think it's going to be a succes.
Billy Elliot is a phenomenon in London. What's the beauty of this show?
I guess it's heart-warming that those kids are so talented.
I mean, from the first moment you see them you think "wow, they're so good", and then I'm already won over
I have, indeed, so much respect for that.
And then there's the beautiful story about a boy who lives in surroundings were ballet for boys is a taboo.
And it's great he gets the opportunity anyway.
I think that's appealing to a big audience.
Will you cry during the show?
Ohh, that's a possibility.
It's a moving story?
It's a very moving story. I haven't seen much, but I saw a few dry runs in the studio's in Amsterdam
and even I had to wipe away a few tears.
Yeah, why...? Of course there's the moment Billy reads his mom's letter...
I won't spoil to much, you really have to be in the audience to experience that, but it's very touching.
All those things... It's really touching.
And how are your rehearsals coming along?
It's progressing really well. We're very busy, the first preview is on December 16, so it's coming closer.
But it's a very talented cast. It's a good and funny show, so I'm really looking forward to it.
How is it to be back in London, do you have a nice place to live?
It's very nice to live in London again, London is a fantastic city.
I had to get up early this morning to get to the airport, and then all the Christmas lights are on.
that's what London is know for and it's has a nice atmosphere. It's very nice to be there again.
Now only Bart should come over and then life's complete.
Are you going to London for Christmas?
I'm afraid not. I'm working here six days a week, so I don't think that will be possible.
So you'll be Skyping again with Christmas?
Yeah, we'll be Skying again with Christmas.
Maybe we'll walk into Robert ten Brink tonight? So we can arrange something...
Who knows? But those days will be hard...
You know, we are always performing on those days.
Ahw... I'll give Robert ten Brink a call..
And how was the orchestra?
Yes, I'm of course really proud on my husband who was in the orchestra. All those tiny little solo pieces...
and small things I regognize... So yeah, I'm really proud.
Can you hear that, yes, "oh, that's Bart"?
Yeah, I can hear that. I've heard him practising for this show,
so I know a bit of what he's playing and what it sounds like.
