the unknown artist did help with the work.

But this is a common practice in the art industry.

The artist claims that he painted over 90% of it

and Cho Youngnam claims that he was only a helper.

The artist told a media outlet that since 2009,

he received $100 per painting from Cho Youngnam

and started working with him.

Once he completed 90% of the work and passed it on,

Cho Youngnam just added a few touches

and signed the work to finish it.

He even revealed photos to prove his words.

He also claimed that he did this

for over 300 of Cho Youngnam's works.

He even revealed some text message correspondence

between him and Cho Youngnam's agency.

There were orders to "hurry up with the paintings"

among the messages.

Cho Youngnam held an interview with the press

explaining that as the exhibition day drew near

he got too busy and so asked for help.

He refuted that having worked on over 300 paintings

was a gross exaggeration.

This dispute has raised questions

about the practices of the art industry.

Some experts stated that using assistants

has always been common practice in painting.

As the current art scene is becoming industrialized,

it is very rare for an artist

to complete his work from start to finish

just as Van Gough or Gaugin once did.

It's doesn't matter whether 80 to 90% of an artwork

was painted with assistance.

The important thing is where the idea came from.

Was the unknown artist simply a technical assistant?

If he was, there's hardly a problem.

Cho Youngnam claimed he came up with the ideas

and concepts and send the painting to the artist

once he was done with it.

He claims that he is the origin of the works.

However, most experts

are stating that using assistants

isn't common practice in the art industry.

Receiving the painting and putting the finishing

strokes on it is going against common practice.

Whether we look through history or modern times,

this has never been common practice.

Why is Cho Youngnam being investigated for fraud?

If those who purchased his paintings

knew Cho Youngnam hadn't painted them,

they probably wouldn't have purchased them

or at least they wouldn't have paid

what they paid for them.

He will mostly likely be charged

if his action are considered to be fraudulent.

But the unknown artist could also face charges.

He hid the fact that he had painted them thus far.

The assistant artist knew what was going on

and kept silent about the truth.

It is very likely that he could be investigated

as an accomplice to the fraud.

We spoke with the unknown artist over the phone.

Due to the controversy,

Cho Youngnam cancelled an exhibition

that was scheduled for the 19th.

His paintings were here before, but they're gone.

They were here a few days ago.

But when I check this morning they were gone.

Today. We decided to cancel it, not Cho Youngnam.
