Homestyle are heading out around New Zealand with First Windows & Doors to
visit houses we find inspiring. The Bay View home of Brad Turfrey and Eva Bradley
caught our eye with its stunning views. After falling for this coastal sight a
short drive north of Napier the couple engaged architect Nick Bevin of Slessor
Architects to design their forever home here. A space to enjoy for years to come
as a family that would also serve as a place to work. Large pivot doors
positioned along the wide hallway effectively divided the personal and
professional zones of the home. With their close proximity to the coast came
a need for materials that would endure the environment but it was important for
them to maintain the direct connection to nature that originally attracted
them to the site. A floor-to-ceiling picture window in the open plan living
area makes the most of the breathtaking views by expertly minimizing the joinery
and maximizing the glass, at either end of the house and in the bedrooms louvres allow
passive ventilation from the sea breeze providing a welcome respite from the
heat of a Hawke's Bay summer.
