"Ah Brazil! The country with the very beautiful bitches!"

"WHAT!" In today's lesson let's look at the different

ways to say two very similar sounding words. Beach and bitch.

If you would like to know the difference in the meaning between these two words, I have

with a foreigner about travelling. Now when I told him I had lived for many years in Brazil,

he said "Ah Brazil! The country with the very beautiful

bitches!" "WHAT!"

Now what he meant to say was, the country with the beautiful beaches. This is a common

mistake, let me show you how to avoid this. Beach and bitch sound very very similar, the

main difference between these two words is how you say the vowel sounds. Beach has a

long vowel, which actually means you need to project the vowel higher. Let's look at

the mouth. The tongue needs to be very close to the roof of the mouth but not touching,

and when you say this word your lips need to part horizontally slightly. Like so: Beach,

beach, beach. Bitch on the other hand, is a short vowel,

which means it's a short falling vowel. Let's look at the mouth. This time you need to drop

the jaw slightly and also the tongue, and the lips stay together. Like so: Bitch, bitch,

bitch. Let's compare: Beach, bitch, beach, bitch,

beach, bitch. Don't forget to click on the video for the
