Welcome to "Half Pint Hacks" where awesomeness is our specialty.
Today we are making "golden milk."
This is one of our favorite drinks and people are amazed that kids like us like it so much
because they taste the key ingredient and find it to be bitter.
I actually tricked Alastair earlier into tasting it.
Alastair, would you like to taste some turmeric?
Do you like it?
Here's the key: Turmeric can be bitter when it is raw.
Our important piece of advice for this drink is to bring it to a boil and then simmer it
to reduce the bitterness of the turmeric.
Even powdered turmeric should be simmered.
The other key to our golden milk is the ginger. Ginger is spicy but it blends well with the
turmeric and the honey. Don't skip this ingredient.
You can use fresh turmeric and ginger or you can use powder. We're just using powder.
In two cups of milk, add 1 teaspoon of turmeric, one teaspoon of ginger, and a pinch of black
pepper and sweeten it to taste with honey.
If you are also using a powder, you might want to strain the drink through some mesh.
The powder can be gritty in your drink but a mesh strainer will catch a lot of it.
Now it's time for the taste test. It's really good and spicy.
