HI GUYS, IM CATIE WAYNE AND THIS IS ANIMALIST NEWS.

THE KENTUCKY DERBY IS TOMORROW, SATURDAY MAY 3RD AND SO WE HERE AT ANIMALIST NEWS WANTED

TO CELEBRATE THE ONLY WAY WE KNOW HOW: FUN FACTS.

FUN FACT ONE: THERE ARE SO MANY RULES ABOUT NAMING RACEHORSES. LIKE, SO MANY. ITS A

BIT IMPRESSIVE, ACTUALLY. IT STARTS SIMPLE: ALL HORSE NAMES CAN BE UP

TO 18 CHARACTERS INCLUDING SPACES AND PUNCTUATION, BUT THEN OH LORD HERE COME THE RULES

* No names ending in horse-related terms like "filly," "colt," "stud," "mare," "stallion,"

* No names consisting entirely of numbers, except numbers above thirty may be used if

they are spelled out * No names ending with a numerical designation

such as "2nd" or "3rd," * No names of actual persons unless written

permission to use their name is on file with The Jockey Club

* No names clearly having commercial significance, such as trade names

* No names that are suggestive or have a vulgar or obscene meaning; names considered in poor

taste; or names that may be offensive to religious, political or ethnic groups

* No names from the restricted list AND THERE ARE MANY, MANY MORE. THE WORST PART?

YOU NEED TO COME UP WITH SIX OF THESE NAMES TO SUBMIT TO THE JOCKEY CLUB. I DONT THINK

I COULD EVEN COME UP WITH SIX REGULAR HORSE NAMES.

FUN FACT TWO: FILLIES HAVE THEIR OWN RACE. TODAY, IN FACT IS THE DAY OF THE KENTUCKY

OAKS, ALSO KNOWN AS THE LILIES FOR THE FILLIES. THAT IS CUTE. ONLY FILLIES CAN

COMPETE IN THIS RACE, AND THE WINNER IS DRAPED WITH A GARLAND OF LILIES. BUT SOME FILLIES

STILL COMPETE IN THE DERBY, IF THEY ARE STRONG ENOUGH. BUT SO FAR, ONLY THREE FILLIES HAVE

WON THE DERBY.

FUN FACT THREE: THE RACE TAKES TWO MINUTES. YEAH MAN, HORSES ARE FAST. THE RACE DISTANCE

OF THE KENTUCKY DERBY IS 1.25 MILES, AND THE RACEHORSE HOLDING THE DERBY RECORD, SECRETARIAT,

RAN IT IN 1 MINUTE AND 59 SECONDS. IN 1908, THE TRACK WAS MUDDY AND SLOWED THE HORSES

DOWN, SO THE WINNING HORSE RAN THE TRACK IN 2 MINUTES AND 15 SECONDS. WHAT. THE DIFFERENCE

BETWEEN THE FASTEST AND SLOWEST WINNING TIMES IS 16 SECONDS. WHAAAAAT HORSES ARE SO FAST.

WHAT IS THE FASTEST MILE YOUVE EVER RUN? BE SURE TO LET ME KNOW IN THE COMMENTS BELOW,
