Well, I think for me, what keeps bringing me back

to... Well, let's just use Grizzly lodge for an example,

or even Chile or our home location, Colorado,

is... Is to keep pushing

the ability to get into cooler areas.

You know, keep pushing and forcing myself

to practice the craft.

And, you know, doing those mandatory maneuvers

whether it's a re-entry bowtie hop over

and gnarlier stuff.

And, so we could we could go see what's over

that next little rise

or down in that next little finger.

I ride a Turbo a lot.

Um, but I ride a Turbo a lot because I mean,

at Colorado at 12,000 ft,

in the driest, sugariest snow that you've ever ridden,

that, to be honest, a Stocker can't do

a lot of the things that a Turbo does.

I love all aspects of it.

I love building the light weight sleds,

But the majority of the snowmobiles

I ride day to day

are a roughly or sometimes, like in this circumstance,

a 100% bone stock snowmobile.

And by riding the lightweight turbos

and getting to the gnarly places I get to,

I still want to get there on a stock sled.

That's what makes me a better rider on a stock sled,

is to be able to have in my mind

the goal of getting to this place,

I have to carry more momentum,

look farther ahead, be perfect on a stock sled

to get to where I could get on my Turbo.

We were filming for our Black Cat segment

for our Arctic Cat,

and it wasn't anything crazy,

it was just this little jump

and I remember thinking to myself,

you know, I just need to gauge my speed on this

'cause I don't want to overjump it

'cause I could land it flat.

And, I just,

literally just,

just a little too much throttle off the lip and,

and uh,

it sent me nose high.

So I was over the front of the sled tryin' to,

tryin' to spot my landing.

I decided to bail at the last minute.

And uh,

I bailed and I actually landed

right on top of the sled

probably the sled compressed

and then I landed right on

top of it, with my butt right on the

back of the tunnel.

I looked at the filmer,

uh, that was working with us

and I was like, "Dude, I can't feel my legs."

Um, after a while,

I tried to get up and I was

able to get up on my hands and knees

and that was it.

I knew I wasn't gonna be able to ride a snowmobile

out, you know, that day.

And, uh, so

that's when Rob and everybody

got on the phone and started

calling Life Flight and tryin' to get the

uh, get me a way out of there.

Then all of a sudden, like 20 minutes goes by

and I get another phone call.

And, uh, they're like,

"Hey, it's too bad

"the storm's come in, we can't,

"we can't land the bird, you're gonna...

"It's gonna be a ground rescue.

Then they put me on a, behind a toboggan,

behind a snowmobile and,

and, uh, pushed/pulled me out

of the mountains and

that was, it was miserable,

but six hours

of, from the time I broke my back

to the time I got put into an ambulance,

I was six hours on the mountain side.

First thing I did after surgery is, I

um, made sure my legs worked and,

and they did.

For two weeks I slept in a chair.

That was, that was really tough for me.

Um, I had a walker for,

you know, those first two weeks.

And, uh, slowly, you know,

I just kept getting better and better.

Um, it was, uh, a year, basically,

from the time my accident

that I finally started feeling good. So,

I was a little nervous, getting back on a sled

for the first time.

Uh, I knew I was gonna be able to ride.

Uh, and I was as careful as I could

last year with still keeping sane,

um, doctors scared me,

told me not to do anything and...

But a guy's still gotta live, you gotta deal with

you know, keep your mental state

you know, at some point.

I kind of thought Rob was gonna take

it a little easy on me. Being that I'd

just been through a major accident like this.

But we just headed right into the trees,

right into the gnarly stuff and I kinda just had to like,

sit there and stop for a second and be like,

all right, I gotta man up and see if this is gonna work.

It's time to move on, time to,

raise my family, time to,

continue back country ridin'

um, and, just,

just have fun with snowmobiling, kinda get back to my roots,

as far as,

not be so busy. Not working till 2 o'clock

in the morning every night, trying to get race sleds ready

and not, not, you know,

havin' to put my boots on to go

practice super hill climbin' uh,

just getting back to

why I love snowmobiling.

You're creepin' out the people, man.

[BOTH LAUGH]

I'm Rob.

I've always been the one

that's kind of a little bit,

"Ah, don't hit that, Dave"

or "Don't... Don't do that."

And Dave's always like,

"Ah, you old man, shut up, I'm gonna hit it" so,

he'd always hit it and,

you know, I kind of, deep down inside,

knew that one day I was

I was gonna be hauling my buddy home.

You know, for me,

that sucks

because you just don't know which

day it's gonna happen, but,

I mean, I'd watch Dave

do something and get away with it

once or twice and he'd

go do it again just 'cause he thought he could

go a little further, a little deeper,

and you, know, so

I feel like,

he kinda got bit a little bit but,

I think in every, every athlete's

career,

there comes a point where you wake up

and you know, your body don't work like

the way it did the day before.

You're just like, you know,

is this really worth it anymore?

It's just like, all of us older guys,

we've all been injured, every one of us.

It's just, how you get out of bed the next mornin'

and put your shoe on, so it's just awesome that

you know, Dave's come back

nearly 100% and

gonna get to share those days with him

and I think it's important that

we're out there now

and we're both little bit more educated

and, you know, it's just...

It's kind of like I was telling Dave the other day,

I put my hand through a drive clutch of a 509 film,

and Dave's got a broken back.

So, we're kind of like Iron Man, you know.

We just get up and keep pounding.

And it's pretty cool that, you know,

Dave's gonna be able to go out there

and share that passion with me.

And spend more days on the snow, eh?
