Today, we will talk about the words “many” and “much”. These words help us talk about amounts, but we use them in different ways.
The word “many” comes from Old English “manig”. The word “much” comes from Old English “micel”. Both words have been used for a long, long time!
Use “many” when you talk about things you can count. For example, apples, books, or houses.
Use “much” when you talk about things you cannot count. For example, water, air, or time.
A good way to remember the difference is to ask yourself: “Can I count it?” If yes, use “many”. If no, use “much”.
Use “many” for things you can count. Use “much” for things you cannot count. Now you know the difference between “many” and “much”!
