The Insurance Association of China startet a new assessment and rating program in China that is called China Insurance Automotive Safety Index (C-IASI) that should be established in addition to C-NCAP. The rating program is based on the American IIHS rating. In addition to insurance tests, the new rating includes challenging crash tests and a pedestrian protection rating. To realise the crash tests, the China Insurance Research Institute of Automobile Technology (CIRI) opened a crash lab.
