The Full Form of KGID is Karnataka Government Insurance Department
District Insurance Office (K.G.I.D.) is an Independent and Compulsory Insurance programme established in 1958. The department is responsible for implementing Compulsory Insurance Programme to all the Pure Government Employees working under Karnataka Government.
Karnataka Government Insurance Department was founded by his Excellency Sri. Chamaraja Wodeyar X in the year 1891 to establish security for all the State Government Employees.
Further developed by Divan Sir K. Sheshadri Iyer to include the Retirement funds to the Government employee and Death Claim settlement to the family of the Government employee in case of interim death during service. This was to provide financial stability to all the State Government employees.
