NTP, which was developed by David Mills at the University of Delaware in 1981, is designed to be highly fault-tolerant and scalable.

National Toxicology Program (NTP) is an interagency program of the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) that was created to coordinate toxicology testing programs within the federal government; to develop and validate improved testing methods; and to provide information about potentially toxic chemicals to health, regulatory, and research agencies, scientific and medical communities, and the public.

NTP’s mission is to evaluate agents of public health concern by applying tools of modern toxicology and molecular biology. NTP uses the best science available to maintain an objective approach to addressing critical issues in toxicology. We are continually evolving our methodology as we develop and apply new technologies and research methods, with the goal of staying on the cutting edge of toxicological science.

We work to identify potentially hazardous substances and evaluate their effects for human health.
