Power supply over-voltage protection is really useful – some PSU failures can put damaging large voltages on the equipment. Over-voltage protection prevents this happening on both linear regulators and switch mode power supplies.
Although modern power supplies are now very reliable, there is always a small but real chance that they can fail.
They can fail in many ways and one particularly worrying possibility is that the series pass element, i.e. main pass transistor or FET may fail in such a way that it goes short circuit. If this happens a very large voltage often referred to as an over-voltage could appear on the circuitry that is being powered causing catastrophic damage to the whole equipment.
By adding a little extra protection circuitry in the form of over-voltage protection, it is possible to protect against this unlikely but catastrophic possibility.
Most power supplies designed for very reliable operation of high value equipment will incorporate some form of over-voltage protection to ensure that any power supply failure does not result in damage to the equipment being powered. This applies to both linear power supplies and also to switch mode power supplies.
Some power supplies may not incorporate over-voltage protection and these should not be used for powering expensive equipment – it is possible to do a little electronic circuit design and to develop a small over-voltage protection circuit and add this on as an extra item.

6, The full form of OPP is Orangi Pilot Project.
The Orangi Pilot Project collectively designates three Pakistani Non-governmental organisations working together, having emerged from a socially innovative project carried out in 1980s in the squatter areas of Orangi, Karachi, Pakistan. It was initiated by Akhtar Hameed Khan, a North Indian muhajir from Uttar Pradesh implemented by Perween Rahman, a Bihari from Bangladesh and involved the local residents solving their own sanitation problems. Innovative methods were used to provide adequate low cost sanitation, health, housing and microfinance facilities.

The Office of Public Prosecutions (OPP) is Victoria’s largest criminal legal practice. The Office of Physical Plant is responsible for the repair, maintenance, utilities and operation of all the buildings and grounds of the University. At STU there are more than 19 structures totaling more than 350,000 square feet and we also maintain in excess of 100 acres of land.

General Information
The Office of Physical Plant is located in Lewis Hall. The hours of operation are Monday thru Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Physical Plant staffs are on duty from 6:00 am to 10:30 pm performing a variety of tasks in the building maintenance/repair, housekeeping, grounds and events setup fields.

Maintenance mechanics are on call 24 hours a day to respond to any emergencies. To report emergencies after hours please contact the Office of Public Safety at 305-628-6500 and they will in turn contact the mechanic on duty.

Orleans Parish Prison (OPP) has never been your typical county jail. On an average day before Hurricane Katrina destroyed many of OPP’s building, the prison held nearly 6500 inmates. Although New Orleans was only the 35th most populated city in the United States, OPP was the 9th largest local jail in terms of the total number of prisoners per day and the average daily population of prisoners (1). OPP even housed more people than the notorious Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola (a.k.a. “the Farm”). On any given day, 60% of OPP’s population are individuals held on attachments, traffic, or municipal charges (2), while the remainder are housed for the Louisiana Department of Corrections and the federal government. It was these inmates, many of whom had not yet been formally charged with a crime, or were serving time for minor municipal infractions, who were abandoned in their cells for days following Hurricane Katrina.

The Open Prosthetics Project (OPP) is an open design effort, dedicated to public domain prosthetics
“OP is a forum for collaboration among users, designers and funders with the goal of making our creations available for anyone to use and build upon. The site seeks to inspire and serve a core group of lead users and to speed up and amplify the impact of their innovations in the industry.”
By creating an online collaboration between prosthetic users and designers, the project aims to make new technology available for anyone to use and customize. On the project’s website, medical product designers can post new ideas for prosthetic devices as CAD files, which are then available to the public free of charge. Prosthetic users or other designers can download the Computer-aided design (CAD) data, customize or improve upon the prosthesis, and repost the modifications to the web site. Users are free to take 3D models to a fabricator and have the hardware built for less cost than buying a manufactured limb.
The project was started by Jonathon Kuniholm, a Marine reservist who lost part of his right arm to an improvised explosive device (IED) in Iraq. Upon returning home and receiving his first myoelectric hand, he decided there must be a better solution.
