A mixture of distyrene (a polystyrene), a plasticizer (tricresyl phosphate), and xylene, called DPX, was introduced in 1939 and later modified by the substi- tution of a more satisfactory plasticizer, dibutylphthalate (butyl, phthalate, styrene – BPS).
DPX Mountant is a mixture of Distyrene, a plasticizer, and xylene. It is a colorless synthetic resin mounting media which replaces Xylene-Balsam. It preserves the stain and dries quickly.
