The Chandigarh Industrial and Tourism Development Corporation (CITCO) has failed to comply with the orders of the Punjab and Haryana high court of getting the government accommodations occupied by its staff vacated.

On July 31, the court had given two weeks’ time to the corporation to comply with the directions and to fix irregularities pertaining to house allotment.

As per norms, CITCO employees are not entitled to government accommodation and there are around 50 employees who are currently residing in government houses.

The court has already imposed embargo on CITCO for further allotting houses to its employees following a petition filed by an employees of the administration in December last year.

The petitioner had contended that employees of CITCO, who otherwise were not eligible either under the rules or in accordance with the law framed, had been allotted government houses.

CITCO chief general manager (CGM) Amandeep Kaur said, “There are certain issues which need to be considered. We have requested the administration for creating a separate pool for CITCO employees.”

According to sources, in case regarding appointment of production staff in CITCO hotels, it was specifically mentioned in the advertisement that government accommodation would be provided to selected candidates. “The selected candidates were given accommodations and withdrawing the facility of government residence will be against the terms of contract,” an official said.
