The full form of BSMS is Bachelor in Siddha Medicine and Surgery.
Among the AYUSH courses that are offered in educational institutions in India, students across India also pursue Siddha Medicine. In India, medical colleges will offer the course at the undergraduate level as Bachelor of Siddha Medicine and Surgery (BSMS).
In India, is offered as an undergraduate course which is conducted for a duration of 5 years, like other medical courses in India. Over the past few years, the demand for the AYUSH course has been increasing ever so slightly.
The Bachelor of Siddha Medicine and Surgery is overlooked by the Ministry of AYUSH under the Government of India. Therefore the course structure and the subjects that are covered under the course have been designed by experts in the Ministry.
The aim of the programme is to educate its aspirants on scientific knowledge of Siddha so as to produce graduates who are qualified and trained to become surgeons, physicians, teachers as well as research scholars in the field. The programme has been designed so that the graduates are able to completely contribute to the scientific and medical community of India.
Candidates must have cleared class 12 board examination from any recognised board of education in the stream of science.
Candidates must ensure that they have secured 50% in the qualifying exam with subjects like Physics, Chemistry and Biology along with one language, as per the guidelines of the University or College that would offer the programme.
Admissions to the AYUSH courses, which include BSMS also, require a NEET score. Therefore candidates will need to appear for NEET examination for the respective year of admission.
The Ministry of AYUSH has announced that all the admissions to the different AYUSH courses will be based on NEET scores.
The performance of the candidates in the NEET entrance exam will determine the selection of the candidates.
Admissions through NEET or National Eligibility cum Entrance Exam is done through NEET Counselling process. Candidates, based on their score or rank will be allotted a college, which will also depend on the availability of seats and choices filled in by the candidate.
