Delphi Automotive Systemsesel Direct-Injection system utilizes patented ion-sense closed-loop technology that can sense the start of combustion, information that the control module uses to accurately start and meter the fuel into the combustion chamber. The accurately delivered fuel allows for the engine to be operated in a more efficient manner, resulting in improved torque, lower audible noise and lower fuel consumption, and reduced emission of pollutant and greenhouse gases.The system is composed of common-rail injectors, a high-presure fuel pump, exhaust aftertreatment, exhaust gas re-circulation valves, mass and pressure airflow sensors, an electronic control unit, and diesel ion-sense glow-plug sensors for feedback control. The system may be used on any global vehicle platform.
