The 73rd Amendment in our Constitution mandates a crucial role for our Gram Panchayats (GP) with regard to local area planning which is an indispensable pre- condition to function as an “institution of local governance” and policy formulation at the grass root.
Gram Panchayats have a significant role to play in the effective and efficient implementation of flagship schemes for the transformation of rural India.

The GPDP planning has to be a comprehensive, participatory process which involves the full convergence with Schemes of all related Central Ministries / Line Departments related to 29 subjects enlisted in the Eleventh Schedule of the Constitution.
