What is the meaning of [A word is enough to the wise]

An intelligent person can readily take a hint. Whoever is speaking to him
knows that he does not need a long explanation. The Latin version is _verbum
sat sapienti_ , but we usually omit sat (enough) and abbreviate the rest to
_verb. sap_. in such contexts as:

> ‘Verb. sap.’ he said when she tried to explain. ‘I can guess the rest.’
