Here ‘ _stars_ ‘ is synonymous with fame or renown. It is a translation of the
Latin proverb, _Per aspera ad astra_ , and means that the road to fame is
rough and difficult. An alternative version, _Per aedua ad astra_ , which
means the same thing, is the motto of the Royal Air Force and is rarely used
in its English translation.
