What is the meaning of [To err is human]

We are all liable to make mistakes. The saying dates back to classical times.
We find it, for instance, in Seneca: ‘Humanum est errare.’ Alexander Pope used
it in his _Essay on Criticism_ (1711):

> Good nature and good sense must ever join;
> To err is human, to forgive, divine.
