Get your goat origin

It is one of the most frequently applied American slang phrases by media to describe different political events. The etymology of this expression is usually explained with the horseracing story. In the past, a goat was placed with a horse to calm down it before the race. Hence, if anyone had stolen it, the horse could become wild and twitchy. Although the story suits the slang meaning, there is no supporting evidence of its origin.
